My sincere condolences to you all. Bruce was a gentleman to his core and a man with great generosity of spirit. He took an interest in writing lives regardless of whether those living them were his clients or not. I was always happy to see him. He will be missed.

I met Bruce through my friend Bobby who was married to a colleague. It was the 70's and everything and anything was possible. Bruce was kind, compassionate and fun. He touched the lives of many people and most were always the better for it. His friends and family will miss him deeply. He was One of a Kind in the best possible way. CO

Please accept my condolences. At his prime he was the greatest and I owe much to him. He read every manuscript I submitted, at least to be able to discuss it, and he had a tremendous sense of humour. He is a great loss.

I met Bruce when he decided he wanted to be a literary agent and asked if I could tell him whatever I thought he needed to know before he launched into his new venture. It would be an understatement to suggest that Bruce was a quick study. Withing a few months of entering a partnership as an agent, he cut a wide swath through Frankfurt as he charmed everyone he met and astonished publishers and writers with both his passion for good books, and his knowledge of book marketing. He was brilliant, funny, exuberant, a delight to know - and we did become good friends over the years. I will treasure our memories of holidays in the South of France, on Quarry Island, at the barn, and, of course, at numerous book fairs.

Dear Ashton and family, I'm so sorry for your loss.
I met Bruce when I was still a publisher in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. He would always make time to meet during my visits to Toronto and loved discussing the state international publishing. The agent he was, he would also make sure to weave his pitches for Canadian talent through those talks.
Bruce has been such an important force in the internationalization of Canadian writers; shaping a highly successful era in CANLIT.
I wish you all the energy and rest to get through these tough first weeks and then the months ahead. Alzheimers is such a cruel disease. I hope you all can find peace in his journey has now come an end.

Bruce was a decades long business partner and friend. A man of passion with a febrile imagination, a profound love of books - and of Canada. He enveloped you with his warmth and caring. He will be sadly missed.
