Bruna ARNOULD Obituary
Bruno Michel Marie Arnould
It is with grief that we announce the passing of our father, Bruno Michel Marie Arnould on Friday, May 5, 2017. He passed from this life as he had lived, on his own terms, quietly at home with his family.
He is survived by his son, Marc Richardson Arnould, his daughter, Katherine Richardson Arnould, their mother and his former wife, Elinore Richardson, with whom he had become close during the two years of his battle with cancer, and his father, Louis-Gérard Arnould. His mother, Thérèse Houdet Arnould, predeceased him.
Bruno faced his illness with characteristic strength, dignity and humour and, again and again, exceeded his doctors' prognoses. He leaves behind his devoted sister, Maryvonne Arnould, and his brother-in-law, Michel Lalonde. He will be remembered by his two stepsons, Douglas and Michael (Sammy) and by his nieces and nephew and their families, as well as, by his uncles, aunts and many cousins in North America and in France.
Bruno attended the Collége des Jésuites in Québec City and completed his CEGEP at the Petit Séminaire de Québec. He studied law at the University of Ottawa, from which he graduated Magna Cum Laude in 1978. He joined Stikeman, Elliott, in 1979, later becoming a corporate and securities partner and remaining with that firm until 2002. From 2002 to 2007, he practiced with Fasken, Martineau and, thereafter, with Blakes, as head of its Business Law practice. He was a member of both the Québec and Paris Bars.
Bruno will be remembered as an unparalleled jurist and a man of principle. He was a very private man of remarkable intelligence, who believed that actions speak louder than words. He greatly valued family and friendship, being the very best person one could hope for in times of need. His children were everything to him. He loved them unconditionally, conspired with them, mentored and inspired them; he was their thoughtful confidant and instilled in them the importance of integrity, generosity and of savouring beauty in the smallest of things. He was also a man of humour who appreciated the ironies of life and who, as a master of wit, would leave his audience in tears of laughter.
Family and friends are invited to the Centre funéraire Côte-Des-Neiges, 4525 Côte-Des-Neiges Road, Montreal from 4:30 P.M. on Friday, May 12th, to visit with the family and join in a short memorial service.
Donations in Bruno's name to the Montreal Cancer Institute's Casino Contre Le Cancer are requested in lieu of flowers.
