Bryan GRANSDEN Obituary

BRYAN EWART WATTS GRANSDEN December 9, 1930 - July 3, 2023 Bryan died peacefully at home on July 3, 2023 surrounded by his family and dog, Odysseus. He leaves his wife Angela, and his children, Gregory (Paule, and sons Xavier and Jules), Kendra (Scott and sons Sebastian, Paris and Harley), Alexander (Vivianne and children, Harrison, Philippa and Reginald) and Eleni (Stephen and children Henry and Georgina). He was revered by them all and will be missed. Bryan's profound love for animals was only surpassed by that for his family. He was a citizen of the world who overcame significant personal and situational adversities to flourish during difficult periods of time. He served bravely in combat as an officer in the British Army, achieving the rank of Second Lieutenant, prior to settling in Canada where he earned his Chartered Accountant designation from Queen's University. Following a brief stint in the accounting field, Bryan soon after embarked on a fascinating career as an entrepreneur in the resource industry. Inherently an introvert, Bryan could open up with people about anything from classical poetry to rude limericks, world affairs and precious metals to name a few. He was a passionate fan of international rugby, a voracious reader who loved history and spy novels and he would frequently host legendary gatherings. His generosity was boundless among family and friends. Throughout his life, he established bursaries and funded the development of new facilities at various international schools. He sponsored the education of countless children, including a scholarship dedicated to local, underprivileged children at his alma mater St. Andrews College, in Grahamstown, South Africa. The family would like to recognize the compassionate support from Dr. Lisa Hicks and Dr. Ron Wald at St. Michael's Hospital, his personal assistant, Susan and home support team, Mina and Carla. In lieu of flowers the family requests that you may consider a donation in Bryan's name to the Scott Mission, St Michael's Hospital or the animal shelter of your choice. Cremation has occurred and a visitation with be held at the Mount Pleasant Funeral Service (375 Mount Pleasant Road Toronto,ON M4T 2V8) on Wednesday July 12, 2023 from 9:30 - 10 a.m., with a service to follow at 10 a.m. For more information please visit www.etouch.ca

Angela, we met you and Bryan more than 30 years ago as we were travelling to Bahamas for vacation. We often reminisce about our encounter with two of the most gracious people that we have ever met. We were thinking of you today and the reason that I found Bryan´s memorial. Bryan and I discussed military operations as I was a young Canadian Forces Officer at the time. We are now retired from uniform and enjoy telling our story of this chance meeting of you and Bryan. Bryan told incredible stories of his time in uniform and most notably we shared Christmas gifts that same year - Bryan sent me a memoir of the Crucible of War (which I still have) and I sent Bryan a replica pewter model of a DC3 plane as he told me stories of his exciting combat operations in this glorious aircraft. Bryan (and you Angela) will always be in our hearts. Kirk and Michelle
