CASE, C. William (Bill)
a resident of Chatham, passed away at home on Friday, July 26, 2002, at the age of 79. Born in Tilbury, son of the late Clarence and Elizabeth (Russell) Case. Beloved husband of Mary (Kirkwood) Case for 52 years. Dear father of Laurie Smith and her husband Art of Chatham, Heather Case of London, and Bonnie Case of Toronto. Grandfather of Casey Moorhead. Brother of the late Russell Case (1996), Ida (Norris) Suchard (1997), and Lee Case (1957). Brother-in-law of Lydia Atkinson of Blenheim and Barbara McAuley and her husband Ernie of Bright's Grove. Nephew of Miss Mildred Case of Chatham. Mr. Case attended McKeough School and Chatham Collegiate Institute. He served as Flying Officer in the R.C.A.F. during WWII. He graduated from University of Toronto in 1950 with a B.A.Sc. (Civil Engineering) and in 1951 with a M.A.Sc. He was Deputy City Engineer 1951-1955. In 1955, Todgham & Case was established and operated by Herb Todgham and Bill until 1987. They were responsible for the first Chatham sewage treatment plant, design of Highway #40 connecting Highway 401 to Chatham, and the re- development of King Street in downtown Chatham. Both retired from the firm in 1992. He was a Life Member of the American Waterworks Association, member of the Professional Engineers of Ontario, Past-President of the Chamber of Commerce, 1992 Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year, Chairman of the Task Force on Economic Growth for the City of Chatham in 1991, original representative of the City of Chatham on the St. Clair Parkway Commission and past Chairman, responsible for establishing St. Clair College Chatham-Kent, past chair of the Board of Governors and Past-President of the Provincial Association of Colleges of Applied Arts & Technology. He also served on the District Health Council for 3 years. He was past Chair of Wellington-Victory Lodge #46, A.F. & A.M., Chatham Lodge of Perfection, Kent Chapter Rose Croix, The Consistory and Honorary member of the Supreme Council Scottish Rite. Bill was a 40 year member of the Chatham Rotary Club, Past-President and 1989 recipient of the Paul Harris Fellowship. He was also a member of Park Street United Church, most recently the Congregational Chairman, and was instrumental in the planning and development of Wedgewood Place Housing. Family will receive friends at the McKinlay Funeral Home, 459 St. Clair Street, Chatham, on Monday from 2:00-4:30 p.m. and 7:00-9:00 p.m. A Masonic Lodge Service will be held at the Funeral Home on Monday at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, July 30, 2002 at 11:00 a.m. at Park Street United Church (corner of Park Street and Dufferin Avenue), with Reverend Andrew Jensen officiating.
