Cameron LAIRD Obituary

CAMERON COURTNEY LAIRD February 26, 1959 - January 18, 2023 Sadly, Cameron Courtney Laird, passed away on January 18, 2023 after a courageous battle against cancer. His loving wife Loretta De Stefano and beloved daughter Juliana are devastated by this loss. Cameron was a "Scarborough lad working hard to make it in Gotham." He was a fixed income market specialist who held roles as a portfolio manager and later as a relationship manager for many of the finest insurance companies and banks in North America and Europe. His latest position was with Triple AAA in Detroit where he was Head of Fixed Income. His career began in Toronto, then took he and Loretta to Chicago in 2000 and on to New York City in 2002, where they have lived as Upper East Side residents and raised Juliana. Cameron will be lovingly remembered for many things. He had a great sense of humour and was a gifted story teller, always delivered with the appropriate accent. Although many people claim to be The Maple Leafs number one fan, he was top tier of the fan club and recently acknowledged that he would never see them win in his lifetime. Cameron's intelligence and generosity as a host, friend or employee were appreciated by those who met him. Born in Scarborough, Ontario to Harry Laird and Mollie (nee MacIvor). He attended Birch Cliff Public School, Birchmount Park Collegiate, University of Toronto and proudly obtained his CFA designation. He is survived by his wife Loretta, daughter Juliana, his brother Scott (Nancy), his mother-in-law Liliana De Stefano, and Loretta's siblings Mary, Lucia and Peter. Also, many cousins, nieces and nephews from the extended Laird, MacIvor and De Stefano families. The family would like to thank the dedicated doctors and nurses at New York Presbyterian Hospital for their service and compassion. In particular they would like to acknowledge Dr. Manish A. Shah and Nurse Practitioner Hilary Heyison (Hematology and Medical Oncology) and Dr. Mehraneh Dorna Jafari (Colon and Rectal Surgery). As per his request, Cameron has been cremated and a funeral mass will be held at St. Thomas More's Catholic Church in NYC (65 East 89th Street), on Wednesday, January 25, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. All are welcome.

I believe The Mercantile General Reinsurance Group was Cameron's first professional post university. He was part of the Investment Team managing this UK company's assets in North America from Toronto. Despite the years, l well remember him as if l talked to him yesterday.

Great memories of Cameron living on Springbank. We kept in touch when we both worked in the financial district in Toronto. He never changed. Always smiling. He will be missed. My condolences to his family and friends.

Shocked and saddened to hear of Cam's passing. He was my best friend's cousin growing up and many snow ball fights , hide and go seek street games, trips to his cousins cottage and family gatherings and celebrations were shared with this sweetest Scarborough bluff ,Springbank Ave neighbor who always had a mischievous grin and lots of positive energy. God bless you Cam! And my condolences to your beautiful family. I know you will be greatly missed by all !! XO Phyll
