Candide FRANKLYN Obituary

CANDIDE REGAN FRANKLYN 1967 – 2013
It is with profound sadness that we announce that Candide Regan Franklyn, born October 2nd, 1967, passed away Tuesday, February 12th, 2013 at the age of 45. He was a devoted husband, I.A.T.S.E. 873, I.A.T.S.E. 667, I.A.T.S.E. 600 union brother and friend.
From humble beginnings in Toronto he began his film career, rising through the ranks as a grip and an expert dolly technician, to become a revered and world-renowned steadicam/cameraman in both Toronto and Los Angeles. Candide owed much to his mentors - Roger Kumble, Steve Burum, Adam Sandler, Dennis Dugan, Norman Jewison, M. Night Shyamalan, Ernest Dickerson, Malcolm Lee, Theo van de Sande, Tak Fujimoto, Peter Howitt to name a few. In a career that spanned over three decades, his credits included many notable films such as Cinderella Man, Hairspray, The Da Vinci Code, The Hurricane, Grown Ups, A History of Violence and Devil. He was loved and admired by many for the work he did and the man he was.
While we will no longer hear the sound of his signature laugh, his joy and passion for filmmaking will live on and echo in our souls every time we see the images he created for the screen.
With an open door and an open heart, Candide gave back to those that touched him. The consummate host, his quiet eloquence and his articulate intelligence, always united us around a table to discuss politics, films, quantum physics, or his much beloved Colts. His unique worldview infused his still photography and creative writing. Our gentle giant has left us too soon.
Candide is survived by his loving and devoted wife Leslie Whittaker and his mother Yolanda Franklyn.
