Carl ROCCHI Obituary

ROCCHI, Carl
Peacefully, with his family by his side, Carl Rocchi passed away, at the age of 87, from cancer. Carl was the beloved husband of Rose (nee Ranalli), whom he thanked every day for her care and devotion through their 54 years of marriage. Adored father of Tom, Rosanne, Tony, Gerry, Marie and Angela, and devoted grandfather of Justin, Caitlin and Jordan Rocchi, Elizabeth and Charles Rocchi, Madelaine Dean, and Gerry and Chris Angelatos. Treasured father-in-law to Dr. Janet Farrell, Monica Wolfe, Nigel Dean and Denis Angelatos. Beloved brother to Thomas, Francis and Joseph. Predeceased by his brothers Angelo and John and his sister Ada. A special uncle to dozens of nieces and nephews. He bore his advancing Alzheimer's disease with dignity and grace. Retired from Otis Elevator in 1982 and the Hamilton Court House in 1992; he spent his life doing charitable work for the Church and tending his garden. He lived every day as if it were a special gift, with a strong Catholic faith and devotion to family. He lived a simple life and found extraordinary joy in the ordinary, reaching out to others and marvelling at his luck in marrying his beloved Rose. His greatest joy consisted of having the whole family together 'one more time'. This July he would have celebrated the 75th anniversary of his arrival from Italy to Canada, the country he embraced whole-heartedly. He spoke ill of no person (except of course baseball managers and football coaches). He lived his maxim 'Do what you think best', trusting to his innate integrity. He leaves behind a wealth of good will and family who will share their best memories and stories of an exemplary man. The family extends its gratitude to all the health care teams who cared for him at the medical facilities in Hamilton, and in particular to Dr. Joseph Ranalli, Dr. Janet Farrell and Dr. Peter Lovrics, for their vigilant care which extended his life for many years. The family will receive friends at UPPER JAMES CHAPEL of Crestmount Funeral Home, 1020 Upper James Street, Hamilton, (905-575-1154), on Friday, from 5-9 p.m., Saturday from 3-9 p.m. and Sunday from 2-6 p.m. Prayers will be held on Sunday afternoon at 3 p.m. A Mass for the celebration of his life will be held at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Mohawk Road East, Hamilton, on Monday, May 24th at 11 a.m. Cremation to follow. Interment at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery will follow at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Joseph's Healthcare Foundation, St. Peter's Hospital Foundation (Palliative Care Unit), Hamilton Health Sciences Corporation (General Division) or the Alzheimer's Society, would be appreciated by the family.
