CARMAN BRANDT MILLER obituary

CARMAN MILLER Obituary

March 18, 1943 - September 1, 2025 Brandt passed away on September 1, 2025, in Calgary, at the age of 82, surrounded by his wife, Cathy, and his children. He was a devoted husband and, for 34 years, Cathy's steadfast partner and "knight in shining armour." Brandt was stepfather to Quentin (Elmina, Celina, and Lance) and Stephanie (Allen and Isabelle). He was also brother to Daniel (Leslie, Kieran, Stephen, Wyatt, and Georgia). Born on March 18, 1943, in Fredericton, New Brunswick, Brandt spent his formative years in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. As a child, he enjoyed working on math problems with his father at lunchtime, which nurtured his curiosity and intellect. Brandt earned a PhD in Mathematics from the University of Illinois in 1970, and later completed an MBA at the University of Western Ontario. After returning to Canada, Brandt began his career as a faculty member at the University of Western Ontario. In 1978, he moved to Calgary, where he held various financial positions within the private sector. Brandt was highly regarded as a dear friend and enthusiastic outdoorsperson. He loved hiking, skiing in the mountains, sailing, and especially whitewater canoeing in the Arctic. He explored many rivers across Canada and travelled to every continent, always seeking out unique and less-travelled destinations. Reading was another of his passions; he never missed an issue of The Globe and Mail or The Economist, and stayed well-informed on current events. Brandt's life was marked by his love for family, friends, and adventure. He was known for his remarkable patience, emotional composure, and ability to nurture lasting relationships. Brandt will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved him. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Red Cross in Brandt's memory.
