CAROLE SWEENEY Obituary

(September 15, 1934 – January 6, 2026) Carole Sweeney passed away peacefully, at the Regency Manor, in Port Hope, on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, at the age of 91. Born in Montreal and raised in Verdun, Carole was the adored child of William and Florence Cunningham; and the loving wife of Charlie Sweeney, whom she married in 1956, and who predeceased her in 1996. Carole was the cherished mother of Tom, Tracey (Phil Schenk), Brad (Heather McLaine) and Deanne; and a devoted grandmother to Braden, Aaron, Rachel, Avra, Adrienne, Daniel, Tristan, Megan, Devon, James and Chris. Her legacy of compassion, commitment, and service continues through each of them. Throughout Carole's life she was surrounded with love by her many aunts, cousins, where she is survived by Sue, Colin, Bruce and Johnny; and has now rejoined her lifelong friends, Eleanor and Carolyn. She learned of her adoption late in life and was fortunate to know her half-siblings, Bev, Barb and Gary. A competitive and graceful figure skater in her youth, Carole enjoyed skiing, tennis and bridge throughout her life. She tirelessly managed the busy household of an active and engaged family, and always volunteered to support whatever her children were involved in. In retirement, she and Charlie volunteered at the Metro Toronto Zoo - teaching younger generations the importance of conservation was perhaps their greatest joy. Carole and Charlie's love of travel took them far and wide throughout the world. Whether by motorcycle, plane or ship, they made many friends and forged lasting relationships along their life's journey. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to Toronto Zoo charities.

We are so grateful for the time we had with Aunt Carole. She had such a beautiful, strong, and independent soul. It was such a treat when mom and I had time to spend with her and the cousins on our visits to Toronto. We were so sorry to hear the news of her passing and we're going to miss her. God bless you all.
