CAROLINE ALTPETER Obituary

SISTER CAROLINE ALTPETER, IBVM Altpeter, Sister Caroline (Mother St. Karl), IBVM died peacefully at Sunnybrook Hospital on October 2, 2022, in her eighty-seventh year of life and her sixty-eighth year as a member of the Institute of the Blessed Virgin Mary (Loretto Sisters). Predeceased by her parents, William Henry Carl Altpeter and Mary Honora Smith, she was an only child. She was the beloved niece of Helen and Ed Simmons. Sr. Caroline has many aunts, uncles and cousins. Sister Caroline earned several advanced degrees from the Toronto School of Theology through St. Michael's College, and ministered in Loretto and Catholic Separate Secondary Schools in Niagara Falls, Hamilton and Toronto; as well, she directed the Office of Religious Education for the Archdiocese of Toronto, served as Formation Director for the Loretto Sisters, and also held various leadership roles in the Institute. Her wisdom and experience were highly valued. Sr. Caroline will be greatly missed by all who loved her. Friends may call at Presentation Manor, 61 Fairfax Crescent, Scarborough, on Tuesday, October 11, 2022, from 1:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Presentation Manor Chapel at 1:30 p.m. Interment at Mount Hope Cemetery.
