CATHERINE BAKER Obituary

Catherine Anne Baker (née Wilkes), much beloved wife of Mark R. Baker for 47 years, passed away peacefully at home, with family at her side, on July 31, 2025, at the age of 73. She is survived by her husband, Mark; children: Victoria Anne Baker Savage and Matthew Joseph Baker; grandchildren: William and Maisie; and her sisters: Susan and Sally. She was predeceased by her father, John Wilkes; and her mother, Joan Wilkes (née Savage). Cathy was born in Annapolis Royal, Nova Scotia, into a Naval family. She continued the naval tradition when she and Mark married, where through naval postings they covered the entire country in a variety of locations, such as Victoria, Moose Jaw, Ottawa, Petawawa, and Halifax. Most significantly, she spent two precious years in Chichester, England. Cathy's Christmas activities were the stuff of legend: through her generosity and joy in having her family and friends surrounding her throughout the day. She would build caches of gifts for each child during the entire year, followed by a search for gifts that were then hidden and forgotten. Watching the Blue Jays each afternoon was a treasured event, and you could hear her cheering from outside the home. Her patience and skills are highlighted with her attention to detail in the needlepoints she stitched, taking over a year for each one. They have all been mistaken for photographs by her many friends and visitors. She loved food, and could create culinary masterpieces with ease; so bake a treat, eat with your loved ones, and think of Cathy. There will be a private Celebration of Life for family and friends to be held at a later date.
