CATHERINE BOOTE Obituary
(September 5, 1957-November 10, 2025) Beloved mother to Michelle (Matt) and Josh (Alex); devoted sister to Dave (Nada); grandma to Faye, Grayson, and Joey; compassionate partner to Cam; caring friend to so many (Judee, Wendy, Louise, the ukulele group, the Beach Club Dewars, the book club ladies, the Bridlewood gals, Toosie, Helene), Cathy enjoyed a life of adventure, service to and love for others. She graduated from University of Toronto with a degree in psychology. She opened a daycare for neighbourhood children in the Annex while minding her daughter, Michelle. She worked as a behavioural therapist/counsellor for the dually diagnosed. When Josh attended the Institute of Child Study, Cathy collaborated with Prof. Andy Biemiller as a research assistant. Their vocabulary development studies contributed to best practises in reading education. She was an admired language professor at Centennial College for over a decade. Cathy travelled the world, living and educating for two years in Melbourne, Australia, and two stints at the Phaung Daw Oo Buddhist Monastery in Mandalay, Myanmar. With cousin Shirley, she hiked the Camino trail, shared annual adventures, and rejuvenated at yoga retreats in the Bahamas. Blessed with a green thumb, her sanctuary was the garden. She hosted many gatherings there. Likewise, the family cottage at Menesetung Park overlooking Lake Huron was a sacred, happy place. A constant reader, her bookstand overflowed. She had a keen eye for design and made her homes inviting, beautiful, and cozy. There will be many celebrations of life for our beloved Cathy. Thanks to the team at Princess Margaret Hospital (UHN) and Kensington Hospice where she received remarkable care. Please donate to the George and Helen Vari Foundation in Dr. Jiang's clinic at P.M.H.
