CATHERINE FLETCHER Obituary
(July 26, 1947 – October 18, 2025) Catherine Fletcher, née Manning, and known to all as Casey, an incredible wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully and painlessly at home, surrounded by family. She is survived by siblings, Paul, Elizabeth (Walter), and Mary; children, Brady (Olivia), Andrea, and Carly (Ben); beloved granddaughters, Leah and Claire; and husband, Jim. Casey grew up in Vancouver and, after UBC Education, taught school in Richmond for several years. Searching for new adventures, she moved to Montreal and found work in office interiors and customs brokerage. She met Jim on a whitewater kayaking excursion there, and quickly convinced him to move back to Vancouver with her. Casey loved every moment of life - her family and many wonderful friends most of all. She also loved skiing, biking, golf, tennis, sailing, and most anything that came along - including water skiing on her 70th birthday. Through her sense of adventure and love of activities, Casey established a deep community of friends - including her tennis, golf, bridge, and book groups. She and Jim shared many travel adventures with children and friends throughout the world. Casey's biggest annual highlights were hosting Christmas, Easter, and Thanksgiving dinners for family and friends from all sides, which ultimately required swapping the living room for the dining room. Casey was always there for all who knew her, whether family, friend, or stranger, with compassion, love, a soft shoulder, and eternal optimism. She was a passionate supporter of the KidSafe Project Society, aiding inner-city children for many years, and of BC Social Venture Partners. The family extends their eternal gratitude to the wonderful Doctors, Nurses, and other professionals at VGH, VGH BMT unit and BC Cancer Agency, who helped guide her through the 10-year leukemia journey, particularly after the first relapse in September 2023. Their friendliness, compassion, professionalism, science, and attention have been beyond anything we could have imagined. In lieu of flowers, we encourage donations to VGH and BC Cancer Foundations. A Celebration of Life will be held mid-November.
