Cecily WILLINSKY Obituary
CECILY WILLINSKY
Passed away peacefully on June 5, 2014 in familiar surroundings in Toronto at 93 years of age. Cecily Valentine Willinsky (nee Samuel) was the devoted wife of the late Dr. Jack Willinsky. She leaves behind her sons John (Jan) and Bob (Karen); her grandchildren, Paul, David (Sarah), Aaron, Sarah (Daniel), Jacqueline (Matt); and her great-grandchildren Jack, Finn, and Samuel. She is survived by her brother Ted (Margo), and predeceased by her brother John (Rosemary) and twin sisters, Doris (Al) and Alice (Jack). Cecily was born on October 6th, 1920 in Toronto, the second child of Harry and Irene Samuel, and went on to graduate from the Faculty of Household Science at the University of Toronto, only to continue her life-long pursuit of learning through studies in art history at Algoma College and in other programs. Formerly of Sault Ste. Marie, St. Catherines, Brantford, and Toronto, she formed lasting friendships wherever she lived and was an active volunteer and organizer in the local branches of Hadassah-Wizo and the University Women's Club, as well as with the local synagogue. She was a visual arts coordinator for the early days of the Algoma Fall Festival, and always at the ready to serve others through Meals on Wheels and other organizations. Cecily was rightly proud of her standing as a Life Master in the game of bridge, and remained an avid golfer and cross-country skier, while applying her organizing skills to helping others enjoy these sports and recreation. Her family will deeply miss her warmth and compassion, her bracing candor and inquiring mind, while expressing their sincere gratitude to Roz and Ben Schultz, Aldith Baker, Veena, Vanessa and the wonderful staff at 147 Elder Street in Toronto, for the warm and attentive support they provided Cecily over the past 13 years.
