CHAHLEY LEROY Obituary

LEROY CHAHLEY
1934 - 2007 Leroy Chahley passed away peacefully in the early morning on Saturday, January 27, 2007 at the age of 72. He is remembered with great love by his five children and their families: Leanne Chahley and Bob Blair and their children, Brendan, Rebecca, Joshua, and Daniel; Jay and Shirley Chahley and their children Brandon and Derek; Vincent Chahley and Patricia Irwin and their children Nicholas and Erin; Sandra Chahley; and Debra Chahley. With great sadness, Leroy's wife and life partner Donna passed away in June of last year. He was predeceased by his parents Mary and Martin. He touched the lives of many; family members, friends and associates. Leroy was born in 1934, and lived his entire life in the City of Edmonton. He was fortunate to have completed two very successful and rewarding careers of community service. Leroy graduated from the 1st Class of the Edmonton Police Academy in 1955 and it was with great pride that he worked as a police officer in Edmonton for 35 years. He passed through the ranks working in many different departments and capacities prior to being promoted to Chief of Police in 1987. After leaving the Edmonton Police Service in 1990, Leroy enjoyed a brief retirement and then pursued a second career in civic politics. He was elected for three successive terms as City Councilor serving Ward 1 and the City of Edmonton from 1992 - 2001. His love for Edmonton and his contributions to its development and vibrancy were an inspiration to all. Leroy cared about the community and worked hard to make Edmonton a better place for everyone. We are very proud of our Dad. Outside his career Leroy greatly enjoyed spending time with his wife Donna, his friends and his family. He was a wonderful father, grandfather, friend and mentor who especially enriched the lives of those who were close to him. He remembered very fondly all of his hunting and fishing trips and loved spending time in the outdoors with his friends. The family sends our heartfelt gratitude to the great doctors, nurses and staff of both the Cross Cancer Institute and Misericordia Community Hospital who took such great care of our father these last six months. We send our deepest thanks to all his friends and associates who came to visit our Dad and keep him company. A public memorial celebration of Leroy's life will be held at the First Presbyterian Church, 10025 -105 Street, Edmonton, Alberta, at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 2, 2007. If friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, memorial tributes can be made to the Misericordia Community Hospital, and/or the Cross Cancer Institute.
