BURNETT, Charles Ryland Burnett, Jr.
On Friday August 27, 2004 after a lengthly illness borne with his characteristic gallantry. Beloved husband of Miriam Louise (nee Weston) and much-loved father of Charles. Dear brother of Eugenia Burnett Affel of Philidelphia, Judith Burnett Halsey of Richmond and the late Wingfield Griffin Burnett. Son of the late Charles R. and Eugenia Griffin Burnett of Richmond.
Mr. Burnett contracted encephalitis many years ago, and, though critically unwell himself, participated in ground-breaking neurological research. His unselfish contribution to this field has been invaluable.
Mr. Burnett was born in Richmond, Virginia and attended St. Stephen's Episcopal Church. He was educated at St. Christopher's School in Richmond and Episcopal High School in Alexandria. After graduating from the University of Virginia he served his country in World War II. He attained the rank of Lieutenant Commander on the Aircraft Carrier the U.S.S. Croatan. He was subsequently a director of Walter's Biscuit Company in Blackpool, England and General Manager of the Belmont Manor Hotel and Golf Club in Bermuda.
Mr. Burnett has been living in Toronto, Canada for the past 20 years and recently celebrated his Golden Wedding anniversary. The family wishes to express thanks and sincere appreciation to their many supportive friends and caregivers.
Immediate interment in Richmond, Virginia. A memorial service will be held at Yorkminister Baptist Church, Toronto on Thursday September 23 at 4:00 p.m. If desired, instead of flowers, donations may be made to the Charles Burnett Funds at either the Navy League of Canada (cadets) 1-800-375-6289 or The Salvation Army 1-800-725-2769.
