Charles GLEN Obituary



GLEN, Charles Muir (Chuck)
Suddenly in Guelph, Ontario on November 19, 2003, following several years of failing health. Born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on August 1, 1930, Charles was the youngest son of the late John McGowan Glen 'Jack' (b. Scotland) and Dorothy Frances Mills 'Dolly' (b. England). In July, 1940, Charles and two brothers were removed from their schools in England and taken home to Brazil by their mother, crossing the Atlantic in a convoy of ships just before the major bombings of the Battle of Britain began in August of that year. Later Charles and Bob were sent to Ridley College in St. Catharines, Ont., which their father had attended at the beginning of the twentieth century. Following Ridley, Charles entered Boston University in Massachusetts, returning to Canada in 1954 to join his parents, who moved from Brazil to Maplewood Farms in Maple, Ont., in 1952. He lived there until 1987 and moved to Guelph about a year later. Predeceased by his brother Donald G. G. Glen in November 1991, he is survived by his brothers in England - John (Rosemary) in Devonshire and Robert (Bob) in Maidenhead, Berkshire - and, by his sisters-in-law Ruth Oldberg Glen (John's former wife) in London, England, and Paisley Maxwell Glen (Donald's wife) in Brampton, Ont.. He was 'Uncle Charlie' to five nephews and one niece, and ten grand nephews and nieces - Cameron Glen, Toronto, Keilder Glen (Jennifer), Etobicoke, his sons Jesse, Graeme, McCauley (and their mother Bonnie Walker Glen), Mississauga, Dr. J. Fraser Glen (Jill Marchand) and their daughters Ceilidh and Gabrielle, North Battleford, Sask., Gillian Glen (Jerry Tupis) and their children Emily and Glendan Tupis, Priceville, Ont., David Glen (Marcia) Rio de Janeiro, his daughter Davina, London, England, (and her mother Yara in Brazil), and Douglas Glen (Jane) and sons Jack and Sam, Berkshire, England. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of remembrance will take place on Sunday November 30 at the GILCHRIST CHAPEL - McIntyre & Wilkie Funeral Home, One Delhi Street, Guelph from 3:30-4:30 with a service to follow.
