CHARLES GUNN Obituary
Surrounded by family, Charles passed away peacefully at home, under his own terms on a sunny December 5, 2025. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Anne (McAndrew); his loving children, Hilary (Adam Knight), Andrew (Jane Bellamy), Graeme (Catherine Paterson), and Cameron (Gillian Crossin); and his adored grandchildren, Pearce and Phoebe, Isabelle and Connor, Ewan and Stirling, and Duncan, Gwendolyn, and Ruby, all of whom affectionately called him Sir. He was predeceased by his parents, Andrew Douglas and Frances (Pearce) Gunn; and sister, Jane. Born on October 14, 1938, in Toronto, Sir attended Blythwood Public School, Lawrence Park Collegiate Institute, UTS, and Trinity College (University of Toronto) - and made lifelong friends at each stop. While serving with the Royal Canadian Navy in the University Naval Training Division he met Anne, the love of his life. Despite showing up three hours late for their first date, they knew within three weeks that they would be married. And they were, for 63 years. His work with various banks and trust companies took the growing family throughout southern Ontario and Bermuda, and upon retirement he and Anne built the home of their dreams in Nova Scotia on Fancy Lake. Sir was the epitome of a true gentleman, the best teller of dad jokes, a trusted advisor to family, friends, and colleagues, a handyman par excellence, and the most devoted and caring husband, father, and grandfather anyone could hope for. He is truly missed. The family would like to thank Dr. Katie Crosby at the QEII Health Centre in Halifax for her compassion in Sir's final weeks, his caregivers over the past couple of years, especially Rahman and ChinChu for their companionship, and his MAID nurse Vicki Guy for her warmth and guidance. In lieu of flowers, he asked that donations may be made to the Sunnybrook Foundation, ALS Clinic.
