PARDEE, Charles Henry (Harry)
On Saturday, March 11, 2000, Harry passed away peacefully in his sleep with his family at his side. He was born January 6th, 1919 in Edmonton, Alberta. He was raised and attended school in Edmonton and was an outstanding athlete in hockey, lacrosse, and boxing. Harry was on the Edmonton Athletic Club's Junior Hockey team of 1939 winning the Dominion Junior Title against the Oshawa Generals. That same year he was selected to join the New York Rangers but followed his patriotic duty and joined the R.C.N. (1939-48) as Lieutenant Commander on the HMCS Haida, and later served as the naval A.D.C. to the Lieut. Gov. Alta. Harry spent his career in heavy equipment sales and service initially with Wilkinson & McLean (1945-51) and founded Pardee Equipment Ltd. in Edmonton in 1951. He was very active in the Edmonton community in the Boy Scouts, South Edmonton Rotary Club, Founding member of the Edmonton Petroleum Club, Founding member of the Pipeline Contractors Association of Canada, President-Northwest Chamber of Mines and Resources, President-Canadian Association of Equipment Distributors, PresidentEdmonton Regional Council of Scouts Canada receiving the Silver Acorn Award in 1964. He retired in 1970 and moved to Thetis Island, B.C. where he was a popular and prominent figure in the Island community. His kindness, generosity, enthusiasm and dedication were legendary. He made a major contribution to the Island Planning Committee, Charter Trustee of the Island Trust, Thetis Island Community Hall, the Harbour View Housing Society, and was an active member of the Chemainus Rotary Club. Predeceased by his mother, Marjorie, father, Edwin Charles, brother Frederick, and his sister, Margaret. His memory will always be treasured by his loving wife, Thelma, his children, John (Marion) Sutton, Peter (Sieka) Pardee, Marnie (John) McDougal, Mark (Jackie) Pardee, Tim Pardee, Fran (Rob Martin) Pardee, Blaire (Bob Nemic) Pardee, and Jeff (Maryellen) Pardee, grandchildren, Susy, Tracy, Kelli, Keith, Elizabeth, Marnie, Jake, Jillian, Peter, Shayne, Denise, Tyghe, Kelsey, Georgina, Caitlin, Dylan, Dallas, Mikayla, and great grandchildren, Michelle, Regan, and Darren. A memorial service will be held on Thetis Island, Friday, April 21st, 2000 at 2:00 p.m.
