Charles TUPPER Obituary

CHARLES JAMES TUPPER The family of Jim Tupper is saddened by the loss of our loved one. While we grieve the pain of the loss, we think of the fond memories and the joy that Jim's presence among us brought. On Thursday, October 27, 2022 Charles James Tupper (Jimmer) passed at home in Toronto. Jimmer was born in Winnipeg in 1942. Great-grandson to Sir Charles Tupper, Canada's 6th Prime Minister. Uncle to Charles Price and Scott Price. Partner to Marlene Libbus for last 36 years. Stepfather to and much loved by Tracy Shannon of Toronto. For whom he was a supportive and loving father figure of many years. As stepdad he was helpful and encouraging for the pursuit of life. Jimmer and Tracy would enjoy going to watch the horse races together. They would handicap and bet the 'ponies', laughing and joking, best friends to the end. Jim had a vibrant up bringing in Winnipeg. Each summer he would take the train to Jasper to work as a caddy in his youth. Jimmer excelled in academia. He earned his degree in Mechanical engineering from the University of Manitoba and a Master's degree of Aerospace Technology from the University of Toronto. He enjoyed his many years as a Professor of Engineering at Centennial College He had many friends and colleagues. Many of which he would meet for regular golf outings. For many years he was an avid tennis player. Jimmer had a passion for horse racing. His affinity for math made researching the best odds on picking winners a thrill. He was also a big fan of the Toronto Raptors and the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. Jimmer was a charitable man. He was especially supportive of the Canadian Diabetes Association. Jim was a kind, gentle and loving man. Jim enjoyed adventures especially driving top down in a convertible cherry red sports car. We will miss you, but the many fond memories will keep you close to our heart. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association in Jim's honour.

Many a Saturday morning in Fort Garry in the sixties my family would wake to the sound of our piano being played .... Usually it would be a Gershwin melody ( likely Rhapsody in Blue ) . Tupper as we called him would be playing for his breakfast. We loved Charlie and I´m saddened to hear of his passing. He was like a honorary member of the family and I remember it all like it was yesterday. His 78 year old friend Kevin Lalor , (204) 291- 4734

I have very fond memories of my Uncle Jim. He was the cool uncle whose visits my brother Scott and I always looked forward to when we were young. I recall fun outings to Expo 67 with his friend Bill Arya in his Austin Healey, trips to the Canadian open and Quebec city as well as the time he took us to the Playboy club in Montreal for lunch in the early 70s. Scott and I looked forward to seeing him as a regular at Christmas for some years too. I know my late mother enjoyed his visits with Marlene recently and am very sorry to hear of his sudden passing.
Sincerest condolences to Marlene and family.

Sorry to hear of Jim's passing. I enclose a couple of observations about his teenage years. I first met him in 1955 at General Steele junior high in Fort Garry when we both started year 8. A gifted, very friendly student all through high school. He joined the Lions football team in 1959 and because of his toughness and lack of fear of contact, earned the Centre spot on the offensive line, which he retained for the 1960 and 1961 teams, and we were league and Canadian champions.

Last memory of Jim is from 60+ years ago - drinking beer and playing bridge at his parents home in Fort Garry. Good times
