Charlotte STUART Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of The Reverend Dr. Charlotte Stuart on Sunday, April 28, 2024. Charlotte died peacefully at home, with her beloved "adopted" daughter, Ellen, by her side. Charlotte leaves behind the loving members of the Stuart family in her native Scotland. On this side of the Atlantic, she will be sorely missed by her St. John's family and countless others. Charlotte touched the lives of so many people. Charlotte first trained as a deaconess in Scotland, spent the years 1966-68 in Nigeria and came to Canada in 1970. After serving the church in many capacities, she graduated from Knox College and was ordained in 1981. She was the minister of St. John's Presbyterian church for twenty-seven years. She has continued there as a very active Minister in Association until the time of her death. Throughout her life, Charlotte never lost the vision of God demanding justice in the world. Wherever she could, she made things happen for the betterment of people and the community. A memorial service for Charlotte will be held be held on Thursday, May 2, 2024, 1 p.m., at St. John's Presbyterian Church, 415 Broadview Avenue, Toronto, M4K 2M9.

May 1, 2024

On behalf of my entire family, Carol Anne and I wish to express our deepest sympathy and heartfelt condolences to all family and friends of our dear friend, Charlotte Stuart. Charlotte was the successor of my Dad, Rev. Peter Gordon MacInnes (retired 1981) to the pulpit of St. John's PC, Toronto. She was a remarkable Clergy and religious leader who became a personal friend. We have so so many memories that we will cherish.
As we now live on Vancouver Island, BC, we are unable to attend the Memorial Service in St. John's but we send our love and support.
May she Rest In Eternal Peace. We have been truly blessed to have known her.

Charlotte was my pastor and my friend for the many years I lived in Toronto. Her commitment to her congregation and her community was always an inspiration to me, and to the many others who loved her and were loved by her. I always remember her as a real saint, fun- loving as well as committed to God's purposes in the world. I am grateful to have known her.

Charlotte was involved in my families lives for decades. From marrying my parents to baptizing my brother, cousins, myself, most recently my son and everything in between. She was very close with us especially after the passing of my grandma Mary Pratley. Her doing my son's baptism will always be a core memory for us.

I am so sorry to hear of Charlotte's passing. She was a wonderful friend to my family through many decades and stood at my side through sad times and happy ones. She was an extraordinary person, an inspiring speaker, a woman of great judgment, compassion, and honesty. Many of her sermons have stayed with me over the years and still do to this day. She will be greatly missed.
