CHRISTINA MARGARET "MEG" BEST

CHRISTINA MARGARET "MEG" BEST obituary

CHRISTINA BEST Obituary

(née Sutherland, January 22, 1956 - January 10, 2026) Peacefully, at Princess Margaret Hospital, surrounded by her children, after a brief battle with cancer. Mother of Kirby (Emma), Hilary (Andrew), and Rebecca (Jackson). Proud grandmother of Charlotte. Sister to Sheila Harris (David), Donald A. "Sandy" Sutherland (Lori), and John D. "Jock" Sutherland. Predeceased by her parents, Donald Marshall Sutherland and Gwendolyn Edna Sutherland (Evans). Meg graduated from Queen's University (1977) and went on to a career in book publishing, working for Oxford University Press. The many years she devoted to raising her three children were among her greatest achievements and deepest joys. As her children grew, Meg returned to work, first at the Canadian Bookbinders and Book Artists Guild, and then happily driving a motley collection of cars for Brian Leuty. She leaves behind many family and friends who will miss her dearly. Meg loved wild places, spending many happy weeks at Lake O'Hara and Go Home Bay. In her memory, donations may be made to the Georgian Bay Land Trust. A celebration of life will be planned for summer 2026. Special thanks to Dr. Tim Evans, Dr. Elysha Mawji, and Jeanette Callahan for guiding Meg and her children through a difficult time.

Connecting with Meg was easy. She was honest, open and an amazing listener. I only knew her for a year as a new Cabbagetown resident and she looked out for me and welcomed me into her world with her and Bender. Best travels my friend and peace to you

Family meant everything to Meg. She was a devoted mother and grandmother. Meg was so bright and kind and gracious. I could never beat her at a game of scrabble. We shared a love of the great outdoors. We canoed the Spanish River and the French River. I shall miss her ENORMOUSLY. My thoughts are with her family and friends. As I leave for South America this evening, I shall take Meg in spirit with me. I know that I shall be thinking about her for a very long time. God bless.

I first met Meg when our girls entered Kindergarten at Rolph Road School - followed by Mansfield ski Club and Havergal. What a gal she was. Always with a welcoming smile and a positive attitude. Little did we know that we also shared family! Sending a ton of love to Kirby, Hilary, and Rebecca and know we are thinking of you at this terrible time. Meg will be missed.
