Christopher CALLAHAN Obituary

CHRISTOPHER STEPHEN CALLAHAN November 20, 1992 - October 27, 2023 In Loving Memory of Chris Callahan It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Christopher Stephen Callahan. Chris is survived by his parents, Julie and Stephen, his brother, Jeff, and his dear partner, Sophia. A cherished son, brother, partner, and friend, Chris had a warm presence who welcomed everyone with an endearing smile. He held a special place in the hearts of those who knew him and garnered deep respect within the community. His loved ones and peers held him in high regard for his exceptional intellect, his enduring resilience, as well as his unwavering loyalty and support. After earning an Honours Degree in Applied Economics from Queen's University, Chris embarked on a career in finance, achieving his Chartered Financial Analyst accreditation and becoming a registered portfolio manager. In 2020, he established Traynor Ridge Capital, a Toronto-based alternative investment management firm, becoming one of the youngest hedge fund managers in Canada. The fund specialized in merger and convertible arbitrage investments and he received numerous accolades, most recently from the Canadian Hedge Fund Awards. He was widely respected within the industry and was recognized by his peers and institutions as a prominent and knowledgeable portfolio manager, and was sought after to speak at events on his expertise. Chris' childhood was filled with fond memories, spending his summers at Camp Ahmek and winters skiing at Osler Bluff Ski Club. From the shores of Georgian Bay to the heights of the Rocky Mountains to traveling to many far away destinations, his life was a perpetual journey of exploring his passions and nurturing his thirst for knowledge about the world, its intricacies, and the subjects that captured his heart and mind. Chris was a true gentleman, known for his generosity, and he possessed a wisdom far beyond his years. He never hesitated to be there for the people he cared about in his life, finding the greatest joy in spending time with his friends, life partner, and family, which included memorable paddle boarding adventures with the newest family member, Tina. In honoring Chris' memory, we extend our heartfelt gratitude for the outpouring of love and support during this difficult time. As we remember him, we also celebrate his enduring legacy of compassion and his role in making the world a better place. Chris' spirit will forever live on in our hearts, and the impact of his generosity and dedication will always be remembered. A celebration of Chris' life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 11, 2023, at the Humphrey Funeral Home A.W. Miles – Newbigging Chapel in Toronto, where we will gather to share memories and honor the beautiful soul that enriched all of our lives. Condolences may be forwarded through www.humphreymiles.com.

Stephen, Julie, Jeff and Sophia,

I have been Chris´s neighbour at KGS for the past 5 years. I was deeply saddened to hear of his passing, and at such a young age. Chris and I ran into each other often at the elevator or passing each other on King Street. (I could always tell it was him, even from a far distance by his gait).
As brief as our encounters were, he was always kind, respectful and engaging. He´d ask how my renovation was going, and I the same of his. Chris made it easy to root for him. I´ll miss his friendly smile.

Chris was one of my dearest friends and I will miss him for the rest of my life. He was one of the most compassionate and selfless person I have ever met. Always thinking about other people and bringing them joy and happiness. I will always remember him and the impact he left on this world.

I remember meeting Chris many years ago at the Cambridge Club for the first time in 2016. We had an instant bond and shared many of the same views on life and our future. So many great memories over the years with him from our travels, going up to the family cottage, and hanging out just chatting about the life.

He was a big dreamer, a loyal friend, someone I could always count on to be there, someone I could go to for advice, and had a wicked sense of humour.

I love you man. I'll miss you, but will never forget the times we had and the laughs we shared.
