Christopher GROUNDS Obituary

Christopher (Chris) Grounds passed away suddenly but peacefully on May 20, 2024 at his home in Burlington at the age of 86. He was the loving husband of the late Janet, the proud father of Fiona (Scott), Annalie (Todd) and Vanessa (Michael), the adoring grandfather of Mark (Michelle), Andrea (Greg), Kyle, Vicky (Zack), Brett (Hannah), Jeff (Kate-Lynn), Ian, Julia and Alison (Theo) and the delighted great-grandfather of Nolan, Myles, Ben and Gemma. Chris was born in Birmingham, England and immigrated, with Janet, to Canada in 1966. He made his living as a cartographer, but his true vocation was a choral singer with the Festival Singers and the Toronto Mendelssohn Choir. Chris was the author of frequent letters to the editor of the Globe and Mail, an avid Jeopardy watcher, a voracious reader, a fan of the Blue Jays and the Raptors and a lover of all pets. His biggest joy was his family of whom he was incredibly proud. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will take place at a later date.

My sincere condolences to you all Fiona, Annalie, Vanessa and your extended families.
I and my family first met Chris and his family in 1966 when we lived in Don mills, Ontario.
We had a common bond at that time as we had both emigrated from England.
We lived close by in the same apartment building for about 2 years and then circumstances sent us in different directions and eventually losing contact.
I managed to contact Chris several years ago and have made it a tradition to phone and chat with him for his birthday and Christmas each year.
It was an unfortunate surprise that I was unable to contact him this year and the consequently learning of his passing.
Chris was wonderful friend and I once again extend my sincere condolences.

Had the privilege of meeting Chris & Janet when they first move into Admirals Walk. When Janet passed Chris was still the same and always had a smile and hello when we met. He will be missed.
