Our brilliant, talented, and much loved Christopher died of inoperable brain cancer at Vancouver Hospice Society after a six month illness. Chris was predeceased by his parents Alex and Anne Lind, his brother Sandy, and his father-in-law Gordon Elliott. He is survived by his loving wife Anne Elliott; his children Emily 'Emma' Ruth and Aaron Alexander Musgrove Lind (along with their mother Heather Musgrove); his siblings Plum Johnson, Robin Lind (Kitty Williams), and Victor Lind (Peni Patrick); his mother-in-law Edith Elliott; his siblings-in-law Tim Elliott (Judy Maddren), Peter Elliott (Thomas Roach), Marilyn Musgrove (Gord Jones); his nieces and nephews Virginia (Louis Trochatos), Carter (Diana Dumitru), and Jessica Johnson (along with their father Don Johnson), Frankie Abralind (Jessica), Maria Tribble (Tanner), Hannah, and Nick Lind (along with their mother Joan Bidell), Jeremy (Carolyn Shaver), Simon (Holly Andruchuk), Benjamin, and Pippa Elliott (Tim MacKay). His lifelong commitment to personal, institutional, and social transformation reflected his values of learning, healing, and belonging. He was a prolific writer on issues of social justice, authoring or co-editing five books in the areas of Ecumenism, Social Ethics, Globalization, Mission, and Theology. His most recent book, Rumours of a Moral Economy, describes the links between economics and ethics, arguing that the values and commitments of strong communities reveal themselves in times of crisis. At the time of his death, he was Executive Director of Sorrento Centre, an Anglican Church retreat and conference centre in British Columbia. He was a Senior Fellow of Massey College at the University of Toronto, and a member of the Queens Tennis Club, Toronto. Prior to leading the Sorrento Centre, he was Director of the Toronto School of Theology, one of the largest and most diverse ecumenical theological cooperatives in North America. From 1985 until 2003 he was based in Saskatoon, first as Professor of Church & Society and then as President of St. Andrew's Theological College. From 2000 to 2003 he served as President of the amalgamated St. Andrew's College and St. Stephen's College in Saskatoon and Edmonton, sponsored by the United Church of Canada.Educated at Appleby College, Oakville, and at Tonbridge School in Kent, England. Christopher earned a B.A. from York University, an M.Div. from Trinity College (Toronto) and a PhD in Theology from the University of St. Michael's College specializing in Ethics and Economics. Countless friends, colleagues, and generations of students celebrate his life of teaching, mentorship, and leadership.A Memorial Service will be held at Christ Church Cathedral, 690 Burrard St., Vancouver, on Saturday, July 26, at 3 p.m. Further celebrations of his life will be held in Saskatoon and Toronto at later dates.
