(née Jacques, October 10, 1945 – July 29, 2025) Clare Shields passed away peacefully, in Unionville, Ontario, on July 29, 2025, after a long illness, surrounded by close friends. Born in Ottawa on October 10, 1945, Clare lived a life of service, compassion, and community. She is remembered by the children of her late husband, Garwood Shields: son, Garwood (Lydia) and their daughter, Alexa; daughter, Alison and her son, Jason, and daughter, Carly; and daughter, Lynne. She is also survived by her brother, Ian Jacques; nephews, Adam (Jasmine; and their children, Anna, Stella, and Niko) and Andrew. Clare began her nursing career in mental health before transitioning to paediatrics. Her dedication to education led her to earn a Master's degree and become a respected nurse educator. She and her beloved husband, Garwood, shared a passion for travel, wintered in Arizona, and enjoyed many happy hours on the golf course. A devoted member of both Unionville and Stouffville Presbyterian Churches, Clare will be fondly remembered as the "jewelry and new-to-you lady" of UPC's Mistletoe Market. She was a faithful member of the church choir and an active participant in the Hope in Action team, always lending her voice, time, and heart to the community she loved. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Chapel Ridge Funeral Home, 8911 Woodbine Avenue, Markham, ON L3R 5G1.
