COLIN CAMPBELL Obituary

1940 – 2025 It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Colin, a good and decent man, who died peacefully, on April 2, 2025. Colin was predeceased by his beloved wife, Daphne; and their son, Gordon. He will be dearly missed by his daughter, Mary (Dean); his daughter-in-law, Gillian; and his cherished grandchildren, Lucy, Sophie, George, Charles, and Evan. A proud graduate of Lower Canada College, Neuchâtel Junior College (founding year), and McGill University (BSc. '62), Colin valued lifelong learning. He was an active member of the Oakville Club and The Oakville Golf Club. Colin was an avid skier, horseman, and tennis player. While golf was never his strongest suit, Colin approached the game with good humour and the company of his pals was far more important than the scorecard. A private service will be held this summer to celebrate his life. Colin will be remembered for his charm, wit and sense of humour. He once told his eldest granddaughter that his obituary would state that he always wore slippers in the house.

Colin was a classmate of mine at LCC. I remember his sharp wit. I knew his father-in-law as well from the Montreal Camera Club. Sad to know he is gone. It makes me that much older.

Mary and Family, We will remember Colin as a marvellous host, a gentleman who could share a laugh at his own shortcomings, particularly as it pertained to his golf. He was a central figure to the "invasion" of Montrealers who brought humour and hospitality with them. Life was not the same for him , after the passing of his dear Daphne. We will miss them both. Hi Mary, My memories of Colin are intertwined with horses. We started riding together in Edmonton, often when it was quite cold and snowy and particularly in the late afternoons. We rode with a group of guys that felt the need to occasionally break into a gallop just to stay warm. Edmonton winters can be cold, often very cold, but the warm back of a horse helped us survive. Later we both moved east. I moved to Caledon along with our two horses and Colin moved to Toronto. He would join me on the week-ends and we rode together in and around in Caledon for a number of years. He was a good rider (far better than me) and we both loved the superb Caledon countryside. Colin was a good friend to both my wife, Wendy, and me and could often be seen coaching our young grandkids on how to have fun on horses and especially how to stay on a horse. Our riding days came to an end when Wendy and I moved to Fonthill (close to St. Catharines) and could find no horses or countryside to duplicate what we had shared with Colin in Caledon. We stayed in touch but we both missed our riding adventures and our get togethers were were replaced by periodic phone calls. He was a very good friend and we had many adventures together - I will miss him.

Mary: we were so sorry to hear of your father´s passing. We have many lovely memories of dinner parties at your parents house. We all decided to take golf lessons after one of them. We will miss both of them.
Please accept our sympathies. Hopefully our paths will cross again.
Fondly

I remember meeting Colin when I was a freshman at McGill and he was already established as a fun loving guy. Those fellows from LCC were terrific. My husband was one of them. When our paths crossed, he was always entertaining but had a gentleness about him. He and Daphne were a lovely couple in every way.
To their family, I am so sorry for your loss.

Mary, we shared so many fun times, especially at Lac Marois with your parents, Gordon, yourself and adorable Montague. Those tube steak dinners aka hotdogs were such memories. Our Montreal years were full of joviality and late night dinner parties. Our golf games were such fun as they were such good sports trying to master the game. We will miss them so very much....They were our best of friends...

Mary,
I became friends with your father when I would visit my husband Don at The Kensington. They had quite a riotous table, entertaining themselves with stories at each meal time or cocktail hour. Colin's dry wit and story telling continued to keep us entertained as well as his kindness and generosity. He will be deeply missed but know he is at peace. Thinking of you all at this time Mary.
