Colin Coolican, aged 82, passed away peacefully in Toronto on October 1, 2025 after a lengthy illness. Colin was born to Jean (née Campbell) and Denis Coolican. Colin is survived by his wife of 48 years, Sophie; his two sons, Stefan (Amber) and D'Arcy (Vanessa); his five grandchildren, Marlo, Darcy, Maksim, Edith and Colin; and his three brothers, Peter, Murray and Paul. Colin grew up in Ottawa, the eldest of four boys, which prepared him for a life of leadership. At the family cottage on the Rideau Lakes, no one else was allowed to captain the big blue boat. He attended McGill and earned a law degree from Osgoode Hall in 1967. He joined McCarthy's and became a partner at the age of 28, in spite of his long hair and casual shoes. After 12 years as a lawyer, Colin took a risk to pursue a career in business. He joined Conwest Exploration in 1980. After Conwest's acquisition in 1997, he co-founded Regional Power, a run-of-river hydroelectric power company, where he worked until his retirement in 2013. During his tenure at Regional, the company received a UNESCO Blue Planet Award for sustainable development. Colin was a man who made things happen, but his true hallmark was doing so without an ego. Everyone liked Colin. He had a friendly nature, generous spirit, great sense of humour and a keen interest in the way the world worked. He was an avid skier and, later in life, took up golf. He was excellent at the former and managed to only remember the good shots when it came to the latter. He loved baseball, the thinking man's game that suited his personality. He enjoyed a good meal and never met a cookie he didn't like. Luck always seemed to be on his side. The sun would always come out when he arrived at the cottage. The world is a little less sunny without Colin now and he will be greatly missed by his family and friends. A celebration of his life will be held on October 15th from 1:00 pm – 4:00 p.m. at the Toronto Hunt Club. Condolences may be forwarded to
