Colin JARVIS Obituary

COLIN WILLIAM JARVIS November 7, 1967 - January 17, 2022 Well, the time has come to say good bye. I have really enjoyed my life, but this cancer thing is brutal. My parents (Earl Jarvis and Mabel Gilliland) moved us - sisters Sheri Brown (Kevin, and nephew William) and Leigh Balgopal (Jason) - around a bit when we were kids: Montreal, Oakville, Oshawa, and Etobicoke. The highlight was two years spent in Saudi Arabia. Living in the Middle East and the travelling we did really opened my eyes to the magnitude of the diversity in our world. I am forever grateful for the experience. Through my best friend Ritchie, I met my wife Tricia. Life hasn't been the same since, and I am a better person for having her in my life. She has taught me so much. We have had twenty-nine years of marriage and two incredible daughters, Bridgette and Charlotte. We have had so many wonderful experiences as a family ranging from travel to building our pandemic patio. It has been truly joyful to watch them grow and make their way in the world. I was involved in soccer from 1973 to 2011, first as a player, then referee, and then coach of my daughters. I was honoured to officiate in a number of Ontario Cup competitions. In 2012, I rekindled my love of biking and became a member of the Etobicoke Cycling Club. I have made so many friends on the bike who have made my journey with cancer much more livable. Since my diagnosis in April 2020 I have ridden over 15,000 km. After graduating with a B. Comm '90 from McMaster, I worked for a number of organizations: NCR, Sprint, Rogers, Pitney Bowes, RBC and finally TD. I won a couple of awards over the years and worked with many great people. Thanks to all who reached out over the past 20+ months. I owe a great deal of thanks to Dorothy Ley Hospice for making a really unpleasant journey much more bearable. A very special thank you goes out to Dr. Chopra and Joni Mann. I couldn't have done it without you. If you feel the urge to order flowers, please sit down, it will pass; feel free instead to donate to: https://secureca.imodules.com/s/1439/17/giving/form.aspx?sid=1439&gid=1&pgid=770&cid=1859&dids=2651&bledit=1&appealcode=2216 https://dlhospice.org/ A celebration of life will be held at a later date when things open up.

Colin & I didn't really know one another that well but through our daughters Bridgette and Lindsey we crossed paths at school and soccer.

Years later we connected through Strava, a cycling app that we both used. Even though we never road together we followed and commented on each other's ride. Our routes crossed on several occasions but with helmets, glasses and bright clothing we never knew who the other was behind all that stuff.

Colin's last ride was recorded on Strava was 24 November 2021 and throughout this cycling season I wondered why there were no more rides.

When I recently came across this page my heart sank - I was so sad and it's taken some time before it all to sink in.

Trish, Bridgette and Charlotte - Your husband and dad was a fantastic guy. I am honoured to have known him and will miss him.

Colin - May the wind be at your back...

Colin was an amazing person. He could always make me laugh, even when we argued the merit of various F1 drivers. We were good friends through high school and into university. He made my time at the MSU lighthearted and so much better. On the odd occasion when our paths crossed after that he would regale me with tales of Tricia and the girls. He truly adored you. I´m very sorry for your loss. Colin will be greatly missed.

My deepest sympathy and condolences to Trish and the family. What a tragic way to lose a loved one much too early in life. Stay strong and may the great memories you created over the last few years last a lifetime.
