Collis CARTER Obituary

COLLIS QUINN CARTER We are heartbroken to announce that our beloved Quinn died on December 31, 2020. Quinn was born in Toronto in December, 1972. Always intelligent, inquisitive and logical, Quinn excelled throughout his studies and went on to graduate from the Engineering Science program at University of Toronto. Quinn's brilliant mind and his understanding of the principles of mathematics and physics, helped him to become highly successful and well-respected in his career, accumulating over 20 patents. He worked first as an engineer and then rose through the ranks to become a Systems Architect, designing computer chips at ATI (GTA), Aware (Boston, MA), AMD (GTA) and finally, ARM (Cambridge, UK). Quinn fulfilled many of his dreams. As a young boy, he was interested in airplanes and spent hours building detailed model planes. As an adult, Quinn took flying lessons and obtained his pilot's license. Quinn was always thoughtful, with a generous spirit, a peaceful, caring nature and high ethical values. He lived a wholesome life, he enjoyed learning, reading and travelling. Quinn loved to talk about his trips, which included helping Syrian refugees in Lesbos. Above all, Quinn had learned to find peace and joy in even the ordinary, everyday moments that make up all of our lives. For Easter in 2016, Quinn decided to take a short trip to Vietnam. Tragically, he suffered a devastating motor vehicle accident on that trip. He continued to enjoy his last four years and his mother Joy was always by his side. Despite his injuries, Quinn continued to face life bravely and logically with his characteristic positive spirit until his last breath. Family and friends meant so much to Quinn and he will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by his parents, Joy and Collis, sister Angel, brothers, Jem and Kent, children Shae, Tsahai and Saige, niece Aria, nephews Kai and Nash and his large network of extended family, friends and co-workers. Due to covid restrictions, a private family service will be held on January 16. In lieu of flowers, donations in Quinn's memory to Engineering Science at the University of Toronto would be appreciated, https://engage.utoronto.ca/site/SPageServer?pagename=donate#/fund/783. I had been working with Quinn very closely throughout 2014-2016.
I learnt many things from him and always found Quinn very logical, focused. He was a great engineer and technologist, with strong math & physics background. I also remember that we both enjoyed playing football in Cambridge. Rest in peace Quinn. My deepest condolences to Quinn's family.
