CORA BRODIE Obituary
Cora Marie Brodie (95) passed away on August 12, 2025, in Markham, Ontario. Cora was predeceased by her parents, Charles and Rose Anne; and her brother, Don. Cora was born on a farm on Leslie Street in Richmond Hill and worked the farm for many years with her family. She also worked for many years as a clerk in the hospitality industry. Cora's faith was a key element in her life and she had a lifelong commitment to the United Church of Canada, beginning at her family's church, Headford United, where she was a central force in church worship and outreach. She faithfully played the organ each Sunday until the church closed around 2019. After her and her brother, Don, moved to Markham, they chose to attend and later join St. Andrew's United Church, where they enjoyed worship services and the friendship of church dinners and activities. Always willing to lead, Cora joined and chaired the Board. She also joined the church's UCW and supported their outreach to many charities through the years. Cora's association with the United Church extended beyond the local level. For many years, she took on vital and time-consuming leadership at York Presbytery, acting as Co-Chair of the crucial Administration Committee. York Presbytery covered a huge area, encompassing United Churches from Thornhill to Lake Simcoe and from Nobleton in the west to Uxbridge in the east. Cora also moved into UCW leadership at the Presbyterial level and enjoyed many friendships from this church connection. Then she went on to serve as President of Toronto Conference UCW. Cora broadened her involvement with the United Church of Canada at their Toronto offices, attending meetings and managing initiatives. She was always a big supporter of the Mission and Service Fund, believing firmly in the benefits of its wide outreach to those in need. After retirement, Cora was instrumental in organizing and leading a variety of senior trips through the Richmond Hill Senior's Club 35, providing wonderful outings and entertainment to a large group of their fellow senior citizens for a number of years. Friends will be received at St. Andrew's United Church, 32 Main Street North, (Markham Road) Markham, on Monday, August 18th, from 11:30 a.m. until time of service in the church at 12 p.m. Reception to follow. Interment will take place at Newmarket Cemetery. Cora was committed throughout her life to helping others and gave significantly of her time and money to many charitable organizations, including Sleeping Children Around the World, Easter Seals, The Fred Victor Centre, The Hospital for Sick Children, The Lions Club Camp Kirk Foundation, Covenant House, Camp Big Canoe, and many others. Cora's energy and commitment will be missed by many.
