Damaris WALKER Obituary
WALKER, Damaris
We regret to announce the passing of Damaris Walker, on May 9th. Damaris was born and raised and spent most of her life in Toronto. After a long battle with cancer she passed quietly in her sleep surrounded by her loved ones at Hill House Hospice, where she received excellent care from the dedicated staff.
Damaris was the daughter of Don and Thelma Day both descendant of true pioneering Canadian families. She grew up in Rosedale with a great love of art and travel, and in the early 1960s achieved a childhood dream becoming a flight attendant with Trans Canada Airlines forerunner of Air Canada. Serving on famous aircraft such as the Lockheed Super Constellation, Vickers Viscount and the introduction of the Douglas DC8 she saw much of the world. While working at Wardair Canada, she met her husband to be and was married to Brian Walker on September 8th, 1972.
Though she considered being a mother her primary and most rewarding employment, she found time to do charitable work with the ROM and with the King Hospice in King City where she provided comfort to cancer patients in palliative care. She was also a very talented artist, although she was too shy and modest to share her art outside of the family. Damaris will be greatly missed by her husband Brian, her son Adrian, his wife Shraddha and the rest of the Kothari family, her sister Merle, and her brother Don Day and his wife and children.
We are very grateful to the Hill House Hospice in Richmond Hill for the excellent care they provided for Damaris and all the support they have provided to the family over the last few weeks. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Hill House Hospice, 36 Wright, Richmond Hill, ON L4C 4A1 in memory of Damaris Walker. A memorial service will be held this summer at her home in King City.
