ROWAN, Daniel
Tragically, on Friday, November 12, 1999, another innocent victim of the unrest following the war in Kosovo. Daniel, 34, was among the 24 victims on a World Food Programme chartered aircraft which crashed on its descent into Pristina, Kosovo. Dan is survived by his dear wife Pierangela (nee Addario), his daughter Elena, 3½, and son Michael, 7½ months. Beloved son of Maureen (Kerwin) Rowan and the late Stanley Rowan of Rawdon, P.Q., and stepson of Ronald (Ruff) Johnson. Dear sonin-law of Pierino and Maria Addario. Cherished brother of Sean (Debra Wasylak), Catherine (Grant Farmer), and Mary-Ann (Dieter Klimpel), brother-in-law of Teresa (Dave Rose). Loving uncle of Stanley, Liam, Sarah, Shaleen, Heather, Daniel, Graham, Bridget, Scott and Andrew. Left to mourn are his many aunts, uncles, cousins and stepbrothers and sisters (Rod, Chris, Penny, Geoff, Cathy, Susan), along with his friends and colleagues. At the time of his passing, Daniel was a Senior Project Manager for Corrections Canada and was part of the United Nations Kosovo reconstruction effort, Dan was very excited about this project. His outstanding contribution has been recognized by senior UN and Canadian officials in many outpourings of sympathy. Dan Rowan died while trying to do what he could to make Kosovo a better place. The memory of this selfless individual will live on through his extended family, friends and co-workers. We shall not forget him. Friends may pay respects at the Kelly Funeral Home, 580 Eagleson Road, Kanata, on Sunday, November 21, 1999 from 6-9 p.m. and Monday from 2-4 p.m. and 6-9 p.m. Funeral Tuesday to Holy Redeemer Church, 44 Rothesay Drive, Kanata, for Mass of Christian Funeral at 1:30 p.m., followed by cremation. A private interment is planned for later in the week. A Corrections Canada Memorial Service is also planned in Toronto on Wednesday, November 24. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the World Food Programme or the Canadian National Institute for the Blind. Kelly Funeral Homes (613) 235-6712
