PROFESSOR EMERITUS (OCTOBER 19, 1929 JULY 17, 2010) DANIEL ALLAN SOBERMAN Passed away peacefully at the age of 80 in Kingston, Ontario. Survived by Patricia Margaret, his loving wife of 52 years; brother Richard; children David, Julia and Gail; grandchildren Mark, Ellen, Samuel and Lucy; as well as many other relatives. Daniel will also be greatly missed by his colleagues and students from Queen's University, Faculty of Law. Daniel was born in Toronto, Ontario, son of the late Jack and Rose Soberman. He completed a history and a law degree at Dalhousie and then went on to complete a Masters of Law at Harvard. Daniel co-founded the Faculty of Law at Queen's University in 1957 and was appointed Dean from 1967 to 1977. Daniel continued to teach at the Faculty of Law until his retirement in 2001. In recognition of his many contributions to Queen's and the Faculty of Law, he received an Honorary Doctorate in 2008. Daniel is appreciated not only as a wonderful husband, father, professor and friend, but also as a renowned legal scholar and published author. A service for family and friends to celebrate Daniel's life will be held at the James Reid Funeral Home, Cataraqui Chapel (1900 John Counter Boulevard), Kingston, Ontario, on Wednesday, July 21, 2010 at 1 p.m., with The Reverend Brian Yealland officiating. As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations made in Daniel's name to either the Canadian Cancer Society or to the University Hospitals Kingston Foundation would be appreciated by the family.
