DANNY SILVER Dr. Danny Silver passed away peacefully, in his home, on Sunday, January 16, just shy of his 93rd birthday. He was born in Montreal in 1929, the youngest of five brothers. He often spoke fondly about his childhood growing up in a cold water flat on Clark street. Despite never having attended high school, Danny studied hard to gain admission to McGill University, where he graduated from medical school, while working as a cantor in the Catskills to pay for his studies. He spent the majority of his career in the Department of Psychiatry at Mt. Sinai Hospital, and until exactly one year ago, maintained a thriving private practice. He received numerous awards for his teaching, and was a pioneer and leader in the understanding and treatment of Borderline Personality Disorder. Danny was described as a profound and powerful voice in his field, who molded and mentored generations of colleagues, many of whom went on to become professional leaders themselves. Danny was an active member of Congregation Beit HaMinyan, where he could be heard harmonizing beautifully on Saturday mornings, and leading the concluding service on Yom Kippur. He never lost his operatic voice or his sharp wit and dry sense of humour. Danny will be remembered for his joie de vivre and his unfailing positivity. Everyone who knew him loved him and basked in his warmth, kindness and movie star charisma. Danny leaves behind his beloved wife Ruth, and their three children Carolyn, Mark (Orah) and Abby (Shachar), and a large extended family who meant so much to him. Papa will be greatly missed by his adoring grandchildren, Hannah, Isabel, Zoe, Keshet, Dana, Shira and Ezra. An enormous heartfelt thanks to his loving and dedicated caregivers: Diane, Krystyna, Aimee, Rena, Immy, and Nulu. Donations can be made to Ve'ahavta (416) 964- 7698.
