David Vincent BATES M.D.

BATES, David Vincent C.M., M.D. (Cantab), FRCP, FRCPC, FACP, FRSC
(May 20, 1922 to November 21, 2006) died peacefully in his home attended by his children Elizabeth, Joanna and Andrew with the support of their spouses Paul, Gary and Launi, and his grandchildren Carolyn, Michael, Mark and Robbie. Noted researcher & teacher, UBC dean of medicine from 1972 to 1977, inducted into the Order of Canada in 2003, poet, voracious reader, academic, scientist, mentor, gardener and vintner, David Bates will be sorely missed by all who had a chance to experience his humour, intellect, knowledge and love. A celebration of his life will be held at the Vancouver Unitarian Church, 949 West 49th Ave. at 2:00 pm, on December 8, 2006. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Salvation Army.
