David Cullen was a dedicated Latin teacher whose love of the language and its history was evident to hundreds of students over the years. He was involved with the OCA for a number of years, helping to support the study of Latin, Greek and Classics in Ontario through initiatives over many decades. He was fastidious in his attention to detail, and swift to share a laugh with colleagues. His enjoyment of opera along with his love of the outdoors were characteristic of his enjoyment of his life and the people within it. When a former student arranged to re-name an award for him at the Ontario Student Classics Conference in 2019, it was clear that he had had a significant impact on those he taught, and left a legacy appreciated throughout their lives. The OCA joins with David´s colleagues, students, friends, and family in lamenting his passing, and in celebrating his life well lived.

We have lost an esteemed colleague, a man who combined scholarly excellence with kindness, a rich appreciation of music and art, and a gentle manner. His contributions to classics in Ontario were many, and he will be missed by fellow-teachers and students alike. It was an honour to know and work with David.

So saddened to hear this. Mr Cullen was initially my Latin teacher for 3 years at BCI - as well as the teacher advisor for our debating club and then the combined UN-Debating Club ... and then later, Dave was my colleague when I returned to BCI to teach for the first two years of my career. A more genuine kind caring committed devoted person would be hard to find. Sincere condolences to the family.
