David MacMurchy CULLEN

DAVID MACMURCHY CULLEN Peacefully at Brantford General Hospital on Saturday, January 29, 2022, in his 85th year. Much loved brother of Dr James B Cullen (the late Betty) of Vancouver and Donald G Cullen (Marie-Thérèse) of Ottawa. Proud uncle of Jame's children, Clare (Michael) and their children, Zoe and Aaron of Vancouver, Andrew (Simone) of Toronto\Campbellford, and Sarah (Simon) and their children, Vita and Kit of Toronto. Special uncle to Don and Marie-Thérèse's extended Vietnamese family. A very special teacher and friend to many. Very close to his heart were his students at Brantford Collegiate Institute where he taught Greek, Latin and English (1960-1995). Many students and their parents became personal friends. David attended Acton Elementary and Guelph Collegiate Vocational Institute (GCVI) before going to the University of Toronto, Victoria College. David's passions were the classics, history, literature, opera, ballet, classical music, tennis, hiking, nature, travelling the world and sharing all these passions with others. He was a great patron and sponsor of the arts and many worthwhile causes. He was also a devoted member of his church family at Central Presbyterian Church, Brantford. His family wishes to especially thank David's friends and neighbours and his church friends who helped him through the Covid years and the recent stages of his illness, as well as all the hospital staff. Cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will be held in late spring or summer in Brantford. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to any of the following would be greatly appreciated: the National Ballet of Canada, the Canadian Opera Company, the Canadian Cancer Society and Central Presbyterian Church, Brantford.
