DAVID EWENS Obituary
David Arthur Hugh Ewens, age 88, of Toronto, Ontario, passed away on July 15, 2025, peacefully, after a sudden illness. David was born on July 13, 1937, in St. Boniface, Manitoba, first born of Arthur and Ida Ewens. David grew up in Minnedosa, Manitoba, alongside his brother, Basil, and sister, Daphne. He attended United College in Winnipeg, and afterwards joined the Bank of Nova Scotia in 1959, where he worked until his retirement in 2000. His career with the bank took him to several locations in the prairie provinces and ultimately to Toronto in 1963, where he lived since then. In 1969, he met and married his first wife, Alicia (nee Eppenstein). He adopted Alicia's son, Peter Andrew, and they had a daughter, Carol Elizabeth, in 1972. Sadly, David was widowed in 1992 when Alicia died of cancer. In 2003, he met and married Clair (Yvonne Jerred), to whom he was married for almost 22 years. Since his retirement, David and Clair enjoyed family and friends, travel, and especially Jazz. David was predeceased by his sister, Daphne; and survived by his second wife, Clair; his son, Peter; daughter, Carol; daughter-in-law, Diane; granddaughter, Jacqueline; his brother, Basil; and sister-in-law, Carmen. David was much loved by his own family and the extended families of both Alicia and Clair. He also leaves behind many friends who will fondly remember his spirit, kindness, and love. We will miss him dearly. In lieu of flowers, his family is requesting donations to St. Michael's Hospital Foundation in memory of David. A Mass will be held at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church at 520 Sherbourne St., Toronto, on August 2nd, at 9:30 a.m., followed by a reception and celebration immediately after at Rosar-Morrison Funeral Home and Chapel at 467 Sherbourne St. A portion of his ashes will be interred with those of his first wife, Alicia, at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Toronto at 1:30 p.m. the same day. He will be forever loved by each and every one of us.
