DAVID GOSSAGE Obituary
August 23, 1928 – May 22, 2025 Son of Leigh McCarthy Gossage and Brookes Ferrar Gossage, David died peacefully, on May 22, 2025, at Sunnybrook Hospital's Reactivation Care Centre, in his 97th year. Prior to that, he had been residing at Toronto's The Claremont since 2021, which he very much enjoyed and appreciated. David was suddenly predeceased by his highly talented wife, Barbara Gossage (nee Redfern) (2010); and sister, Nancy Leigh Eaton (2007). David will be missed by his brother, Michael Gossage and wife, Carolyn; children, Jane Janson (Guido), Diane Gossage, Paul Gossage and Susan Bell (Kevin); grandchildren, Daniel (Brianna), Ryan (Salem) and Alexandra Bell (Jake), Benjamin and Charles Flock; great-granddaughters, Penelope, Georgia and Eloise Bell; and great-grandson, Baker Bell. Dad was an Insurance Broker of 46 years at Tomenson Saunders and its subsequent takeovers until it finally became known as Marsh Canada. He attended Upper Canada College, North Toronto Collegiate Institute and graduated from the University of Western Ontario. He enjoyed, played and excelled at multiple sports and was honoured with Upper Canada College's, "The Alexander Logie Medal for Proficiency in Athletics and the Battalion, 1945-46." Dad remained physically active his entire life. He ran, cycled, skated, skied both downhill and cross-country, played squash, tennis, golfed, and eventually began walking for his daily exercise. As well, he spent many tranquil hours tending to his beautiful garden at "173". Both he and Mom loved taking their twice yearly canoe trips to Algonquin Park when it was most serene and had few paddlers. In spring, they expertly canoed frigid waters soon after the ice went out and again in late September to witness the leaves' colours at their height. Dad always packed his camera and capably captured the park at its best! Mom used his photos as a reference for many of her paintings. Once the snow flew, Saturdays entailed family ski sojourns to Collingwood for a glorious day of skiing, lessons and fun! Heartfelt thanks are extended to The Claremont Staff, Nurses and Caregivers for their support. Cremation has already taken place, and a private family funeral will be arranged at a later date. In lieu of any floral tributes, if desired, donations may be made in David's memory to Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre.
