How sad to find this. I knew David years ago when I worked in the book trade and helped him open King Street Books, but I lost touch with him over the years. He was such a nice person. My condolences to his loved ones and family.

I don’t know David, but I do. Over the years I have read some of his musings and stories. Some of the stories bring back memories so vivid I can be there for a bit, the smells the colour of the light. We were born around the same time, and grew up in the same locale and genre.
His written words are moving, and inspiring and I knew that if I ever had a chance to reach out and communicate I would. Perhaps on another level, another time. His friends and family should know that he touched people through his writings. Be at peace. Pete

I will never forget the first time I met Dave. I remember it all so vividly. It was in 2002 at Fionn MacCool's Irish Pub at King & Spadina in Toronto. I was working as their Dist. Mgr. at the time for Prime Restaurants and we had only opened the pub for business the week before. It was just passed 11am and I was standing behind the bar on my cell phone having a conversation with my then boyfriend ( now husband) Mike.
When I disconnected the call, there was a gentleman sitting at the bar enjoying a coffee and we engaged in conversation where I mentioned that I was from Hamilton.

He said to me " oh a good friend of mine lives in Hamilton. Do you know Mike Aube? "

I nearly fell over. I honestly thought it was some kind of a joke.
"How do you know Mike Aube?" I asked.

" we grew up together in Ottawa" he replied.

I became a bit defensive .......this guy was creeping me out!
I said "seriously? are you kidding me? Were you just listening to my conversation?"

Thinking that I must have said Mike's name during the call although I was certain that I didn't because I always call him Honey...and rarely by his first name.

Dave replied " no, I only asked because you are from Hamilton"

I said "OMG......im dating Mike Aube!" I was flabbergasted! It was like "hey do you know Office Bob from Canada? " what are the bloody chances?

"Who are you?" I asked
"I'm Dave Hart" he said
"You're kidding right? I know of you ..Mike's told me some stories about you!" He laughed.

Then I got Mike on the phone and said " you are never going to believe who is sitting right in front of me at this very moment? Dave Hart!"

It was so surreal that when I think back on the chances of something Iike that happening in a city the size of Toronto it still blows my mind. The stars aligned that day.
I will never forget it!

A couple of years later Dave joined our family for Thanksgiving dinner. It was a lovely chance to get to know him and to share in the reunion of two old friends simply sharing stories of their time together growing up.
Dave Hart was a true friend to my husband Mike Aube and I am confident that despite the profound sadness being felt at this time, that stories and fond memories of adventures with Dave Hart will be shared for years to come.
Sending our deepest heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones.

Neighbour Dave! You welcomed me to the neighbourhood from the day I moved in. I’ll always remember hanging out at your convenience/book store and sometimes dog play pen for Jim and Medley. Thank you for the memories.

Although David and I were both from Ottawa, we met in early 90's working with MCA/House of Blues Concerts. We spoke many times a week and worked numerous shows and festivals. I cherished his demeanor and his fabulous working relationships with our colleagues. I always emailed news of changes in the Ottawa music industry market. We had great conversations in the past 8 years when Lansdowne Park was renovating into TD Place, just down the street from his Ottawa Home. My thoughts go out to Mrs. Hart and family. Thanks for the memories David and the truly fun times.

Best of friends since our high school days in Ottawa, David and I became co-workers when we ran away with the rock and roll ‘circus’, a job that became a career for both David and me. The live entertainment business can be a pretty rough workplace, David approached the job with a high level of professionalism and a great sense of humour. He was a very nice guy and that reflected on all the projects he was involved in.
I will miss David for the rest of my days, my memories of him will always at the very least, bring a smile but more likely a big laugh. Goodbye old friend.

What's the betting his first words at St Peters' Gate were
"Honey I'm home"
and to St Peter
"You remind me of my third wife"
-And he will have talkedg his way out being sent down below and swan into the exclusive upstairs room with a big smile on his face and got Elvis laughing his head off in no time.
-and he deserved every bit of it

Dave was a true gentleman of the "biz" as well as a consummate pro. I had the honour of doing a wee tour with him and some other memorable characters way back when the world was young. I still laugh from time to time at some of the things that so spontaneously came out of his mouth. My deepest condolences to David's family, friends, colleagues, and of course, his dog.

Having been one of my closest friends for the past 45+ years, this world will never be the same place without him.
His natural ability and gift of laughter could make your worst days brighter.
His work with a wide variety of musicians has always impressed me. And I think he blended so well with most of them due to his pragmatic sense of business, quirky sense of humour and never being starstruck.
I mean who more reliable than Dave could escort The Boss for a shopping walk in downtown Toronto ?
I know I am but just one of many who are profoundly saddened by this man being taken away so quickly.
If Dave was ever part of your life, he truly enriched it with his wit and generosity.
Luckily we can partially fill the huge hole he has left with memories and stories of his character.
Who will I go to the movies with and make regular runs to Fat Albert's for a number 4 ??

RIP my friend, no doubt you've got the heavens in stitches.

Back in the late 80's, Dave came and picked me up at my parents house and took us to the Dairy Queen on Bank St. We had vanilla cones and had stayed friends ever since. He was kind, thoughtful, funny, and wise. It was a privilege to have known him.

I lived a block away from David in Ottawa and the friendship continued when we both ended up in Toronto. Always full of laughs and quick wit, he was a pleasure to be around. I offered my artistic skills when he asked for a logo for the band Breeding Ground, and for a pencil portrait of Aerosmith's Steve Tyler. I had lost touch with David and wondered where he ended up. I am so sorry to have found out this news, and send heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones.

I have such happy memories of laughing with Dave and being introduced to his endless music collection during our high school years; gentle, thoughtful and kind, it sounds like he followed his passion and was well-loved and respected in his chosen craft. I wish we had kept in touch after we left our teenage years, but I am so glad he was there to help me and all his friends to get through them with humour and grace.

Dave was one of the first “nice guys” I ever met in the music business, in fact at the time I didn’t realize that I’d met a unicorn, that rare combination of kindness, wit, silliness, and honesty combined with consummate professionalism, smart business sense, and attention to detail. You rarely meet that kind of person in that career. He loved people and music, and music people loved him. My condolences to his family and friends.
See you down the road, Dave.

I met David when I was young, when I would sit in the dog park and read. I always remembered him and he stood out because he was the funny guy with the cool green shoes! He would always check up on me to make sure I was safe and eventually I gave me a part time job working in his shop and looking after Jim while he travelled. Over the 11 years I knew Dave he was such a great role model and caring figure in my life with endless knowledge and life lessons. I'm so grateful that we remained friends after I moved away for university and I'm deeply saddened at his passing. What an amazing person and it was an honour to have known him. My sincerest condolences to Dave's family and friends. May we all remember him with fondness forever.

Dave and I covered thousands of miles together, up and down and across this continent and elsewhere. I couldn’t have traveled in better company. Nor could I have had a more capable and selfless tour manager, or a funnier one! Twenty years later I’m still laughing at some of the things he said.
Sail on, Dave! I wish you peace & light.
To those left behind, please accept my condolences.

I think of Dave and smile. He had a way of finding something funny to say and to make everyone feel like the most important person in the room. Though I haven't seen him in a long time, it gives me pleasure to remember this lively, deeply kind person.
I cannot imagine how people in his life must be grieving and send my most sincere condolences.

I’m truly thankful to have known, worked and laughed with David for many years. David was a remarkably good natured man with quite a unique sense of humour, and always brought out the best in those around him. He was a gifted, dedicated and creative craftsman in event production with a truly entrepreneurial flair. You could always count on David.

And to David’s family may the love of your friends and family carry you through your grief. God bless you David.

So saddened to hear this. I was fortunate to have been friends with David throughout all out high school years at Glebe Collegiate. I remember how witty he was and such fun to be around. Oh...he made us all laugh over many lunches at Mr. and Mrs. Ming's Chinese restaurant on Bronson St.
Our hearts go out to all of David's family on their grave loss.
Rest in peace Dave.

I was so saddened to hear about David. I knew him through Glebe, and the Toronto music scene of the 80s, followed by occasionally bumping into each other (until I moved East) at various events. And through Patrick, with whom I was close pals in Ottawa, back in the day. They both often had me cracking up with their quick wit and non-stop jokes!

Patrick, we lost touch but I immediately thought of you when I heard. I'm sending a big hug and much love to you, and hope we can reconnect. (I'm easy to find on social media).

My heartfelt condolences to Mrs Hart and to Tim, and to all of David's family.

David will be missed by many.

David and I were not close friends yet every-time we met he was always happy, full of laughs and smiling. This is hard news to take, it seems to happen to the best people much to early and David was one of them.

Having been a close friend, as close as you can get with all his travels around the world, from grade school and beyond, I have too many fun memories of laughter to mention just one. I will truly miss our time together, the only solace is that he did live life, mostly, the way he wanted or at least on his terms. Miss you already, "Pal", RIP, and may God Bless you, until we meet again, cheers! Mike Aubé.
