JACKEL, Dr. David A. August 28, 1941 to July 19, 2010 Professor Emeritus David A. Jackel, of the University of Alberta passed away quietly July 19 in St. Albert, his beloved wife Patricia and his canine companion Echo nearby. Surviving are his three children, Cath (Bill), Brian, and Chris (Kristina), their mother Susan of Sechelt, and David's siblings Paul (Nancy), Ruth (Werner), Peter, Heather, Barbara (Bill), Jane, Sarah, Michael (Charlotte), and Dennis (Joan). Born in Ontario, David earned a PhD with Honours at the University of Toronto. Moving to Edmonton in 1969, he served as Chairman of English at the University of Alberta from 1981 to 1986, retiring in 1996. David loved his family, books, teaching, jazz, wine, baseball, and, in every arena, social justice. His contributions to Canadian Literature, the English novel, and writing style live on. The family is grateful to those who assisted David to live at home, in particular: the staff of AHS Home Care in St. Albert, Dr. Norm MacDonald and the staff of Associates Medical Clinic, the Paramedics, and David's care aides.
