DAVID MACDONALD Obituary

We are very sad to share the news of the sudden but peaceful passing of our beloved father, Dave MacDonald, in West Vancouver, BC, on February 17, 2025. A resident of West Vancouver for the past 54 years, Dave was born in Campbellton, NB, the only child of Howard and Dorothy (Hinton) MacDonald. In 1954, after earning his Diploma in Pharmacy from Dalhousie University, Dave began building what would become a very successful pharmacy business career in Moncton, NB. In June of 1955, he married Margaret Ann Currie, the love of his life. He opened his first drugstore in September of 1956, and over the course of the next 15 years he grew that first MacDonald's Pharmacy into a successful chain of five drug stores in New Brunswick. In 1971, after joining the Shoppers Drug Mart group, he and Margaret relocated their young family to West Vancouver, where they would happily live for the rest of their lives. While Dave embraced life on the West Coast, he never lost his love of the Maritimes. Always a devoted family man, Dave was predeceased by his lifelong partner and beloved wife of 62 years, Margaret, in 2017. He leaves behind three children, Pamela (Mike, deceased 1994), Scott (Linda) and Lisa (John); six grandchildren, Jessica (David), Eric, Brandon (Victoria), Kathryn, Spencer (Alycia) and Nicholas (Jessica); three great-grandchildren, Isabelle, Lucky and Elise; as well as a fourth great-grandchild he was looking forward to joining our family this July. We will forever remember him as a dedicated, loving father and grandfather, a man who was always there for those he loved, offering advice and guidance through tough decisions, and ready to catch us whenever we fell. A gathering to celebrate his life will be held in late June. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Dave's memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada. Dear Pam, Scott and Lisa and your families,
Thinking of you this month as you may be preparing for the final good-bye to your Dad. As his cousin (Ian's daughter) I had the pleasure of getting to know Dave better when he vigiled with his mother, Dorothy, your grandmother, in Campbellton, in 1993 and we stayed in touch after that. He filled in gaps in our MacDonald family history together with his cousin, Marie MacBeath. He was a brilliant man with a career to match but he never lost his friendliness with distant relatives. Peace be with you all at this time.

We share your family's sadness on the loss of David after a very illustrious life amongst family, friends and colleagues. When we look back on the memories that we shared with David, it was always filled with happiness and with a "straight shooter" attitude. He was my inspiration and taught me how to inspire those that I was responsible for. Never a day would pass, while I was working, that David was on the phone with me, guiding me along and giving me advice on how to deal with people, conflict, team building and of course setting goals and achieving them. David was so very proud of his wife and family and even when we worked together, he always took the time to ask about our family and the adventures we were on, comparing notes and pictures that he loved to show off! He was an honest man and one that set a beautiful example how life and business should unfold. We share your loss and will always have good memories.
Sincerely,
Cliff & Ashley Proceviat
