David MILLAR Obituary

Having led a full life, David is survived by his three children, Ryan, Laurel and Meredith, who were his great joy in life and for whom he was so proud of the adult persons they have become. He loved them dearly. He also leaves behind his beautiful grandchildren, Finnley, Ella, Duke, Finn, Bo and Callen, who he considered a great treasure and source of joy. He also leaves behind his dear friend Gail, with whom he shared many years, travels and fond memories together. There was a special place in his heart for the life partners of his children, Denise, Russ and Chris. For all of them, he hoped they would have happy lives. And he leaves behind the memories of his parents he loved, and for whom he was eternally grateful for the love, childhood memories and guidance they provided. His life was enriched over the decades by his family and his many friends and acquaintances in many places, and he hoped he had touched their lives as much as they touched his. He was a very independent and self-reliant person, and he hoped that did not diminish how much he cared about the people in his life in their eyes. He always tried to be there for his family and friends in the good as well as the difficult times. In his life and work, he hoped that he left his small part of the world a better place. To all the people that have been in his life and enriched it, he was sincerely grateful. A Celebration of Life will be held for David on Thursday, May 16th at 6:00 p.m. at the Balmy Beach Club. All friends, family and acquaintances are welcome to join in remembering David in a joyous way.

David or "the voice" as I liked to call him was such a kind and considerate man. I met him through business over 30 years ago.My office on Queen St.was located directly below his condo. I could always count on a wave and a smile when he walked by.
My condolences to his family of which he was so proud.

I am sorry I will not be able to attend the Celebration off Life for my friend David as I will be out of the country for a few weeks the first few weeks in May however my thoughts will be with his family. David's unique character, his humour, intelligence and empathy for others is what I miss so much. Rest In Peace David.

I met David some 10 years ago at the Cherry Beach golf driving range. We hit balls there and often found ourselves there at the same time.Needless to say, golf conversation ensued and as his close friends will know, he had not only a wonderful golf swing but clearly was cognizant of the intricacies&complexities of the game. But he still gave the impression that there was always something more to learn about the game. Not ever having socialized off the range with him,I still suspect he was a keen student on life's learning curve away from the game as well.My wife and I moved to Kingston some 8 years ago and he was kind enf to call 4 years ago and stop in to meet me at the local Garrison Military Base golf range. It was such good fun to see him again. We went our separate ways and was saddened to hear from his daughter of his passing.I did not know him well but I know he will be missed by all who have met him.Sincerely,Murray Black

I had the privilege and honour of being David´s partner for 13 years. David was born in Ligonier, Pennsylvania and became when he was in his mid teens, one of the top golfers of his age in the US. His friends loved their many challenging rounds of golf with him. His accomplishments were many. After completing an MSW, he moved to Canada. He returned to school in the early eighties and completed his MPA at the Kennedy school of Government at Harvard. He served in senior management roles for the City of Toronto and focussed the later years of his career on housing. He was CEO of an innovative investment company that enables non profit housing corporations to invest their reserve funds for the future. You were a competent and well respected leader, David, and a wise and loving father. You will be greatly missed.
