DAVID BENJAMIN MOE obituary

DAVID MOE Obituary

It is with great sadness that I must inform you of the passing of my beloved husband, David Benjamin Moe, on May 5, 2025, at 11:42 p.m. in our home in Toronto, Canada. David had been suffering for many years from a variety of orthopaedic and neurological issues, which he endured tirelessly with his usual quiet strength and uncomplaining nature. He will be missed immensely by his family, friends, neighbours, and caregivers. David was an Art Director and Production Designer working in theatre, film and television, best known for his work on The Ray Bradbury Theater (1985), The Twilight Zone (1989) and Chasing Rainbows, (1988-1989) the first television series in the world in high definition. David received a Gemini Award for Best Production Design for "Choices of the Heart: The Margaret Sanger Story" in 1995 and Gemini and ACE Award nominations for The Ray Bradbury Theater. Following his retirement, David taught English at Frontier College and was a favourite of all his students. Throughout his life, David enjoyed music, playing the banjo, guitar, and harmonica, and camping, canoeing, cycling, furniture refinishing, reading, and travel to the Caribbean, Mexico and Georgian Bay. He was a member of Karma Sonam Dargye Ling Tibetan Buddhist Temple for many years, and we thank Lama Tenzin and all the Lamas who attended at his death, and who will be offering prayers for the 49 days. David is survived by myself, Valerie White; his son, Eric Moe and partner, Cora; his daughter, Ingrid Moe, husband, Frank, and children, Finley and Astrid; brother, Ed, and sister-in-law, Penny, and family; brother, Bernard, and sister-in-law, Jeannine, and family; and Dargye the white cat. David will be sorely missed by his family, friends and caregivers, who all loved him for the happy, gentle soul he was. He was never angry, never bore a grudge, never jealous, never complained. His smile brought joy to everyone right until the day he died. In our grief, please let's open our hearts and send love to him on his journey. May he experience a peaceful and joyous transition from this life to the next. Karmapa Khyenno!! 49th Day Memorial Puja and Celebration of Life at the end of June. Contact [email protected].

Sadly I lost touch with David many decades ago, but I still recall what a good friend he was during those drama centre years, the various homes in Toronto, and the old farm house in PEI. He was the best of guests - if something broke, he could likely fix it. If a recipe was going wrong, he would rescue it. He brought music and a hilarious story-telling gift to any occasion. I still have a wood and string pasta server he made 40 or so years ago. Thank you, Valerie, for your moving obituary. All my sympathies to Eric and Ingrid.

The best friend I ever had. Met at the U of S in 1965, I was impressed that he was in a band-Club 62 Batoa, I think it was. With the release of the Stones“ album, we learned "Satisfaction" and sang it at parties. I learned to play guitar because of David, and perform at various venues to this day. Of like mind, we took similar paths, he in film arts and I as an actor/writer in Vancouver. Throughout our lives we saw each other only
two or three times, when I could get Toronto; but the bond was unbroken. His dear wife Valerie was his rock, and I give thanks for her enduring love and support for a truly great friend, whose memory will never leave me.
