David MOTHERSILL Obituary

DAVID FREDERICK MOTHERSILL April 13, 1942 - February 11, 2021 David passed away at Carpenter Hospice in Burlington after a long and courageous 26 year battle with cancer. His wife and best friend of 59 years Beverley (Stewart) and his daughters Carol (Stephane Gagnon), Brenda (Carlos Cerqueira) and Janice (Ken Brohman) were at his side. David will always be fondly remembered as Pops by Owen, Erica (Brohman), Madeline, Sebastian (Cerqueira), Alexandra and Charlie (Gagnon). David graduated from U of T with a degree in Engineering, from McMaster University with his MBA and from Western University with an Executive Financial Management MBA. David joined Dofasco Inc. after graduation and worked there for his entire 37 year career. He sat on many boards as a director both for work and later for the Hamilton Regional Cancer Centre Foundation. He was awarded The Charles F. Rand Memorial Gold Medal for Distinguished Achievement in Mining Administration on his retirement. David's greatest passions were skiing, sailing and golf, but family always came first. He supported his girls in all their endeavors and was very proud to be their father. Stoney Lake was a very special place for David. He grew up there as a youngster and passed his love of the lake on to his family. We hope that you will take a moment and remember David. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hamilton Health Sciences Foundation, Juravinski Cancer Centre / Hematology or Carpenter Hospice, Burlington.

I just googled David's name as I was speaking to a friend about him recently and what a fabulous mentor he was to me early in my sales career when I used to work with him on the Dofasco travel program. I'm so sorry to hear that he has gone but I remember him fondly and with the greatest of respect. RIP

I just found out today of Dave's passing from Beverly. I'm so sorry to hear of his passing. What a wonderful academic and career he had. He was such a great neighbor. I used to joke with him that he was more shop floor than management.

We are very sorry to hear the terrible news about David’s recent passing. We had no idea of the challenges Dave was facing but, being the fighter that he was, he added many years to his life since his diagnosis some 25 years ago.
I have many fond memories of Dave as a fellow classmate in the Metallurgical Engineering class of 6T5.
Our condolences go out to Bev and your family during this difficult time.
My wife, Bev, and I wish you all the best in the future as you adapt to your new challenges.
David will indeed be missed.
Sincerely,
Peter and Bev Brill

I knew Dave for over 50 years -- initially through Works Accounting at Dofasco. You were a tough guy Dave but respected and well thought of by those who worked with you and for you. I miss knowing you are in the world. Heartfelt condolences to Bev and the whole family.

Condolences to all.

Sincere condolences on your loss. David was a fine coworker and mentor when I began my career at Dofasco in 1978. I appreciated his honesty and experience - he raised the bar for all!

Our condolences to Bev, Carol, Brenda and Janice and their families on the passing of Dave. He battled for so many years and his strength was amazing. We've been neighbors for almost 38 years. The girls were all wonderful babysitters when our boys were little. Dave and Bev are thoughtful, helpful and caring people. We'll remember Dave fondly.

Our thoughts are with cousin Bev and our extended family today. These are difficult times for everyone made only worse when a loved one has to pass away alone. It is comforting to know David was not alone. David’s achievements in his career were to make the world a better place for not only his family but also the many colleagues and benefactors of his charitable efforts. Cherished memories shared by the family from time to time will help ensure David’s legacy is their foundational strength in dealing with challenges. A bright torch has been passed to everyone who can make the world an even brighter place in their own way.

So sorry to hear this news, Bev. I have fond memories of my annual visits to your home, of golf outings with David at Hamilton G&CC and even serving on his team of volunteer marshalls at the Canadian Open there one year. I enjoyed many conversations with him over the years which would inevitably lead to stories about the family he loved so dearly. He will be missed.

David has been a great and dependable friend for many years. Our family has had a long-lasting friendship with the Mothersill family both at Stoney Lake and in Burlington. We have had many wonderful fun-filled times together and we will always cherish these memories.

I had a lot of respect for David. He was an extremely knowledgeable and capable person, who I could always rely on to find a solution to a problem. He was also straightforward and honest, which are admirable qualities. He will be missed by his many friends among the retirees of Dofasco. My dearest condolences to Bev and the family.

So sorry to hear of the passing of David, I worked at Dofasco with David in Purchasing. He would share all of his knowledge on the Iron Ore and Coal that came into Dofasco and all about the shipping industry, when he first became ill in 1995 I went to visit him in the hospital and had a prayer with him. I felt truly felt the presence of God in the room at that time, it was a special moment. I also learned that David was a very fine hockey player in his university days, a very humble man as I believe he was called up to play in the American Hockey the farm team for the original 6 NHL teams, He will be missed. Blessings to all of the family... Donnie.
