David PRESTON Obituary

DAVID FRANK PRESTON In Ottawa, in his 80th year, of complications from a stroke following surgery, on January 6, 2023. Devoted husband, father, grandfather, athlete, adventurer, diplomat, enthusiastic amateur cellist and Italian student. Beloved son of the late Richard and Marjorie Preston of Durham, NC and Kingston, ON. Much loved brother of Peter (Pam) and predeceased by his dear sister, Carol. His wife, Kate; children VK and Nico (Amy); and grandson, Ryven, deeply mourn the passing of this brave, good, and kind man. Our family enjoyed accompanying David on his Foreign Service postings to Indonesia, Ghana, Australia, Bangladesh (Canadian High Commissioner) and Poland (Canadian Ambassador). We thank the staff of The Edinburgh for their loving care, The Ottawa Hospital, our wonderful family physician Dr Chopra, the therapists and the health workers who supported David so well. A private interment will take place at Beechwood Cemetery, with a memorial event for friends and family in the spring. Donations in David's memory may be made to OrKidstra or Heart & Stroke Foundation.

Very sorry to hear of David´s passing. I worked with David in US Transboundary Division at DFAIT in the late 1990s and always enjoyed our time together tackling the contentious Pacific Salmon file. He was always committed to doing the best for Canada. Sending my deepest sympathy to Kate and the family.
