David REISS

1946 - 2023

DAVID REISS David Reiss of Toronto, passed away peacefully at Baycrest Terraces on August 14, 2023, surrounded by his family, at the age of 77. David was born in Landsberg, Germany, in 1946 to Rachael and Yehuda Reiss, and spent the first three years of his life in a displaced persons camp in Poking, Germany. As an only child, he and his parents moved to Israel in 1949, where he went to school for Interior Design in Tel Aviv after fighting in the Six Day War in 1967. Shortly after, he immigrated to Canada, where he met his wife, Malca Tick. In the 1970s, David joined the family business called Metro Sportswear, an industrial outerwear business founded in 1957 by his father-in-law. David was a visionary and was instrumental in the company's first foray into down insulation manufacturing - a decision that would be the foundation for what would become the brand known today as Canada Goose. David regarded the people he worked with like family, with some still working at Canada Goose to this day. David is survived by his wife, Malca Reiss (née Tick); son, Dani; daughter, Judith; and grandchildren, Elijah, Reese, Samantha and Levi. Service will be held at Benjamin's Park Memorial Chapel, 2401 Steeles Avenue (three lights west of Dufferin), on Wednesday, August 16th at 2:00 p.m. Interment to follow at Beth Tzedec Memorial Park.
