David Schermbrucker Obituary
(September 3, 1961 – September 28, 2025) It is with heavy hearts that we announce the recent death of David William Schermbrucker. David was a husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, friend, and neighbour. As a federal prosecutor, David litigated complex cases across the country. He excelled at crafting arguments that were concise and persuasive for both trial and appellate courts. In addition to his own work, he spent many hours assisting his colleagues with their cases and mentoring newly called lawyers. He also co-authored a prize-winning text on search and seizure law in Canada, aptly titled Search and Seizure. His love of teaching lead him to teach criminal law and organize the moot court program at the Schulich School of Law in Halifax. His fostered this passion for years prior as a hockey coach for the Halifax Hawks. David loved the simple things: a beer with friends, a good book, a sunny afternoon on his boat. He gave generously to all in many ways and accepted very little in return - the joy of helping others was reward enough.
