David SCHURMANN Obituary

DAVID ROBERT SCHURMANN June 7, 1943 - Mach 2, 2020 David was so proud to have been an actor and director, professionally employed for over fifty years. He was a distinguished member of the acting ensemble at the Shaw Festival in Niagara-on-the- Lake, Ontario for decades. A consummate gentleman, his easy generosity with his fellow artists made David a natural mentor to the generation of actors that followed. In addition to the success he found in his career, David was fulfilled in his personal life and deeply devoted to his wife of 35 years, Maureen del Degan. David came from an extraordinary family that will miss him profoundly. He leaves behind his nephew Carl Schurmann. Late Fragment by Raymond Carver And did you get what you wanted from this life, even so? I did. And what did you want? To call myself beloved, to feel myself beloved on the earth.

Dear David beloved younger brother to Wendela, Steven and Eric and loving husband to Maureen.
Thoughts and prayers for you Maureen at this difficult time.

I first met David in his last year at school, he was desperate to follow his brother Steven and become an actor. And what a successful actor he became.' Goodnight sweet prince. And flights of angels sing thee to thy rest'.

Wonderful actor. Wonderful man. I treasure our days on the boards together and the fine adventures on and off stage, laughing all the way. My love to Maureen and his large theatre family and friends. He will be greatly missed by so many.

A wonderful Sir Toby in "the Admirable Creighton". We all loved his performance, and his q & a session afterward. I offer condolences to his family.

I will always remember David as a good-hearted and generous neighbor, like his wife Maureen. Whenever we met he had a ready smile and a friendly hello. It was a pleasure and an honour to have lived next door to David and I will miss him.

David Schurmann was one of the first actors we ever saw at the Shaw. Even in, "Fanny's First Play" - not a favorite - he was compelling and memorable. Over the last 20 years, we have come to feel he was a special part of "our" Shaw family and looked forward to seeing him each year. He was a fine actor and even when he was performing with the cane, it added to his elegance and charisma. We will miss him greatly.
