David WALSH Obituary
WALSH, David Gordon
Born in Montreal August 11, 1945, passed away peacefully in Nassau, Bahamas June 4, 1998 while on life support after suffering a ruptured cerebral aneurysm. A competitive race car driver in his youth, David started his career at Eastern Trust, later Canada Permanent Trust, eventually managing the firm's investment department by the age of 25. After moving to Midland Doherty Limited, he was appointed Vice President at the age of 29, the youngest person in the firm's history to hold that position. Shortly thereafter, David's entrepreneurial spirit emerged with his founding of Bresea Resources Ltd. He subsequently created 3 additional public companies. David emanated the spirit of a frontiersman; he was an inspiration to his family, friends and associates. David demonstrated the highest degree of courage, moral commitment, determination and unflagging optimism in the face of adversity. Described by many as the most genuine person they had ever met, his sense of humour, kindness, generosity, sincerity, integrity, drive and enthusiasm will remain as a legacy for those close to David who live on. He is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Jeannette, his two sons Sean and Brett, his mother Kathleen, his brother and three sisters. A memorial service will be held at noon on Saturday, June 13, 1998 at St. Matthias Church, 131 Cote St. Antoine, Montreal, Quebec. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the Ranfurly Home for Children, P.O. Box N-1413, Nassau, Bahamas (phone 242-393-3115) or the Bahamas Historical Society, P.O. Box SS6833, Nassau, Bahamas (phone 242-322-4231) or the Children's Wish Foundation of Canada, the Alberta/NWT Chapter, 223 12th Ave. S.W., Suite 106, Calgary, Alberta T2R 0G9 (phone 403-265-9039/1-800-267-9474) or the Quebec West Chapter, 4200 Rue St. Laurent, Suite 908, Montreal, Quebec H2W 2R2 (phone 514-289-1777). The Walsh family wishes to express their gratitude to Dr. Newry and the staff of the ICU at Doctors Hospital, Nassau, Bahamas for their efforts and kindness. It is the desire of David's family and friends to mourn his passing in peace and dignity, hence we would ask members of the media to show their respect by refraining from attending the service.
